Chapter 91: No Wonder the Scoundrel Feels So Warm
First floor, in the dining room.
It was the weekend, and with heavy snowfall disrupting transportation, Shen Han decided to cancel his plans and had no intention of leaving the house today. After breakfast, he sat in the dining room, sipping tea and leafing through the financial newspaper.
Beside him, Zhou Bei was preparing tea for him.
As Shen Han sat upright at the table, savoring his tea, a round, plump “ball” suddenly waddled into the dining room.
Zhou Bei was somewhat surprised by the sight.
Shen Han’s gaze paused for a moment; only after a few seconds did he slowly take another sip of tea.
Lin Nanxun slowly approached the table and sat down, a bit uneasy. Her clothes were so thick that even sitting down felt cumbersome.
“Miss Lin, your outfit today looks lovely—very warm,” Zhou Bei remarked with a smile after giving Lin Nanxun a once-over.
He remembered last time when Miss Lin wore a skirt with bare legs; just looking at her made him feel cold, though the servants claimed she was wearing some miraculous garment. Still, Zhou Bei felt that seeing Miss Lin bundled up was far more reassuring.
Hearing this, Lin Nanxun couldn’t help but glance at Zhou Bei and Shen Han, both dressed lightly.
Both men wore only shirts and suits, not even a sweater between them…
“Why are you two dressed so lightly?” she paused, genuinely puzzled.
Were they not cold?
Zhou Bei quickly explained, “Miss Lin, the boss and I are men; our bodies handle the cold better, so we don’t need to wear much.”
Both he and the boss were the sort of men with some physical prowess, so their constitutions were strong enough that even in winter, they rarely felt chilled.
Lin Nanxun’s face suddenly lit up with understanding, nodding as she muttered, “No wonder the rascal feels so warm.”
As she finished speaking, Shen Han’s fingers paused on the teacup.
The dining room was instantly enveloped in a subtle, unexpected tension.
Zhou Bei and the nearby servants exchanged surprised glances, first at Lin Nanxun, then at their employer.
Miss Lin’s words didn’t sound particularly problematic at first.
But the real issue was her matter-of-fact tone, as if she was already accustomed to the warmth of the boss, which left everyone even more stunned.
Lin Nanxun, oblivious to these subtle cues, simply sat in her chair, obediently eating her breakfast.
“Ahem…” Shen Han set down his teacup, clearing his throat softly. His handsome face was grave.
Seeing this, Zhou Bei and the servants snapped back to attention.
Zhou Bei gave an awkward laugh and hurried to shift the topic. “Boss, it seems Lu Yuanchong will be stopping by today.”
“What’s he coming for?” Shen Han asked, still sipping his tea, his gaze fixed on Lin Nanxun.
Seeing her eating obediently, not picking off the ham from her bread, he finally allowed a hint of satisfaction to show.
“He said you haven’t invited him over in a while—he just wants to check in,” Zhou Bei replied, following Shen Han’s gaze to Lin Nanxun, then added, “It’ll be good for him to take a look at Miss Lin’s condition as well.”
Shen Han pressed his thin lips together, but said nothing more.
Shortly after, Lin Nanxun finished the last of her milk, setting the cup down with excitement.
“I’m full,” she declared.
With that, she jumped up from her chair and dashed out of the dining room.
