Chapter 42: You Can Stay a Few More Days
Although she was surprised, it was indeed a joyful matter. Seeing the look of envy on the servant’s face, Lin Nanxun couldn’t help but feel happy for Aunt Xu as well.
“Aunt Xu is about to go pack her things. If you get up now, Miss Lin, you might still catch her before she leaves,” the servant said to Lin Nanxun with a smile.
As soon as the words left the servant’s lips, Lin Nanxun nodded, lifted the covers, got out of bed, slipped on her slippers, and went to the bathroom to wash and change on her own.
…
Downstairs.
Aunt Xu, who was set to leave for her vacation abroad today, was holding a little notebook, carefully explaining all sorts of matters to the servants in the villa.
Besides listing Shen Hanzhi’s preferences and taboos, she had also written down several of Lin Nanxun’s likes.
“Aunt Xu, don’t worry, we’ve taken note of everything,” one of the servants said with a sigh, finding Aunt Xu’s reminders a bit much.
“You must remember everything I said earlier and not be careless,” Aunt Xu repeated, still worried.
As she spoke, Shen Hanzhi, having finished his breakfast and ready to leave, walked out from the dining room into the main hall.
“Sir,” the servants greeted him in unison when they saw him.
With his lips pressed in their usual thin line and his face expressionless, Shen Hanzhi walked over to Aunt Xu.
He stopped in front of her, lowered his gaze, studied her for a moment, and then finally spoke in a slow voice.
“Do you need Zhou Bei to help you?”
Aunt Xu was taken aback by Shen Hanzhi’s words, not expecting him to ask about her affairs.
She had been by Shen Hanzhi’s side since he was a small child, and in all these years, it was the first time she had seen such a display of warmth from him.
For a moment, she felt a strange wave of emotion in her heart.
“There’s no need, sir. My family has already packed everything. I won’t trouble Zhou Bei,” Aunt Xu replied.
As soon as she finished speaking, the sound of footsteps came from the direction of the staircase.
Shen Hanzhi slowly turned his gaze and saw Lin Nanxun descending, her hand on the banister.
“You can stay a few more days if you wish,” he said calmly to Aunt Xu, his expression unchanged.
“A week-long trip is already quite enough. I’m actually worried it might be too long,” Aunt Xu replied with a smile.
At that moment, Lin Nanxun had reached the bottom of the stairs and ran over to Aunt Xu.
“Grandma Xu…”
“Miss Lin, slow down!” Aunt Xu hurried over to steady her.
Lin Nanxun reached Aunt Xu, took her hand, and looked at her with visible reluctance.
Aunt Xu sighed softly, then explained in a gentle voice, “Miss Lin, I’m only leaving for a few days. I’ll be back soon. If there’s anything you want to eat, just tell me and I’ll bring it back for you.”
Hearing this, Lin Nanxun simply shook her head, remaining silent. She felt a pang of sadness but said nothing.
Just as Aunt Xu was about to comfort her further, the driver’s voice called from outside, “Aunt Xu, is it time to take you to meet your family?”
Today, her whole family was heading abroad for vacation, and the master had specially arranged for the driver to take her.
Aunt Xu nodded, glanced at Lin Nanxun, and then turned to leave.
Lin Nanxun stood at the doorway, watching Aunt Xu get into the car and drive away, her expression tinged with disappointment.
In recent days, Grandma Xu had always been by her side, much like when her own grandmother was still alive.
At that moment, Zhou Bei’s voice sounded nearby, “Sir, it’s time for us to go as well.”
Lin Nanxun quickly turned her head.
“Alright,” Shen Hanzhi replied, his lips pressed together.
