Chapter 70: As Expected, This Drink Tastes Wonderful
Shen Hanzhi instinctively wanted to toss the drink in his hand out the car window, but he didn’t. Instead, expressionless, he swallowed the mouthful and slowly turned his gaze toward Lin Nanxun.
“In the future…” Just as he was about to remind her not to drink such strange concoctions again, his dark eyes met hers—pure and clear, filled with expectation.
His words abruptly stopped.
She had been watching him all along, her cautious eyes seemingly waiting for something.
Shen Hanzhi fell silent.
“What about in the future?” Seeing that he suddenly fell quiet, Lin Nanxun looked puzzled, blinking at him.
Shen Hanzhi’s expression froze.
He was suddenly certain that if he said what he’d intended, the look of anticipation on her face would quickly turn to disappointment.
She would lower her head again, shrink into herself, and suffer in silence.
He could almost picture it.
Thinking this, his eyes flickered, and his expression returned to its usual calm composure.
“It tastes good. We can have Aunt Xu buy some more next time,” he said, his tone serious, lips pressed together.
So as not to arouse her suspicion, he took two more sips of the unbearably sour drink, maintaining a perfectly composed look on his handsome face.
Hearing this, Lin Nanxun’s face lit up with joy.
This drink really was delicious.
“I’ll bring you some more tomorrow,” she said happily. The thought that she could please this “bad guy” made her feel deeply satisfied.
Tomorrow, she would ask the brothers at the studio where she could buy more of this drink.
When she mentioned bringing more of it the next day, Shen Hanzhi’s brows twitched ever so slightly, but his expression remained as calm as ever.
“Alright…” he replied coolly, lips pressed together.
With his response, Lin Nanxun grew even happier, her mood bright and radiant.
The car continued on its way home. In her good spirits, Lin Nanxun couldn’t help but chatter away to Shen Hanzhi.
“Bad guy, I met so many people today.”
“They were all really nice, gave me lots of delicious treats—they’re nothing like the people I used to know.”
As Shen Hanzhi drank the beverage with an impassive face, listening to her chatter on beside him, a hint of pleasure softened his handsome features.
Listening to her joyfully recount the day, he found his own mood quietly lifting.
Sending her to Ron had been the right choice.
She no longer clamored to see her uncle.
Driving in front, Zhou Bei heard Lin Nanxun’s ceaseless chatter from the back seat and immediately recalled that his boss usually liked to rest in the car and disliked noise. Normally, he never even turned on the radio.
Just as Zhou Bei was about to ask Lin Nanxun to quiet down, Shen Hanzhi’s composed voice sounded from behind.
“What else?” The words were naturally directed at Lin Nanxun.
Zhou Bei was stunned. He stole a glance at his boss in the rearview mirror, utterly bewildered.
There was no trace of displeasure on his boss’s face—on the contrary, he seemed to be in a good mood, and he had even responded to Miss Lin’s conversation…
Zhou Bei’s confusion only deepened.
“And, Big Beard praised me today.” At this, Lin Nanxun broke into another smile.
