Chapter 74: Those People Still Refuse to Let Her Go
Someone is following us.
Zhou Bei steadied the steering wheel and suddenly spoke to Lin Nanxun in the back seat.
“Miss Lin, hold on tight.”
Startled by Zhou Bei’s abrupt words, Lin Nanxun didn’t quite grasp what was happening, but obediently reached out to grip the car door.
“I’m ready.”
At her reply, Zhou Bei nodded, then pressed hard on the accelerator.
The car suddenly shot forward, making Lin Nanxun jump in fright. After speeding along for some distance, Zhou Bei managed to shake off the trailing cars, gaining some distance before glancing at a side road ahead. With a swift turn of the wheel, he shot down the lane.
He took several sharp turns in quick succession. Lin Nanxun, who never got carsick, sat in the back seat with her stomach churning uncontrollably. Just as she felt she might be sick, the car finally stopped on an unfrequented path.
Only then did Lin Nanxun breathe a sigh of relief. Before she could gather herself, Zhou Bei had already gotten out and opened her door.
“Miss Lin, please get out quickly,” Zhou Bei said, urgency clear in his voice.
Seeing his expression, Lin Nanxun felt a surge of fear. She didn’t know exactly what was going on, but she hurried to get out of the car.
“Find a place to hide. I’ll drive and lead them away. They won’t give up easily,” Zhou Bei instructed, scanning the area for somewhere she could conceal herself.
But the road was simple and open—there was nowhere safe to hide.
“Are they bad people?” Lin Nanxun’s face was now pale with worry after hearing Zhou Bei’s words.
Were those people from that family coming after her?
The thought sent a wave of terror through her, memories of those dreadful days rising once more. As her face drained of color and her body stiffened, Zhou Bei tried opening the doors of the parked cars along the road. At last, he managed to get one—an unlocked black minivan—open.
“Miss Lin, get in, quickly.” Without delay, Zhou Bei reached out and pulled Lin Nanxun over, pushing her inside before she could protest. With a serious look, he gave her his final instructions.
“Hide here and don’t make a sound. Wait for me to come back and find you.”
With that, Zhou Bei slammed the door shut and hurried back to the sedan, driving off into the night.
Moments after Zhou Bei departed, the cars that had been following them sped past in pursuit.
Lin Nanxun remained frozen by the window. It was already dusk; winter nights fell quickly, and darkness had almost completely settled. Her body was so tense she could hardly move. She hadn’t expected those people would still refuse to let her go...
...
Just as the sky had gone dark, a man wearing a hat and mask, accompanied by someone else, left a private hospital and hurried into a black minivan parked nearby.
The moment he got in, he slumped wearily against the seat and pulled off his mask, revealing a gentle, handsome face.
At that moment, the man in the driver’s seat spoke up.
“You probably can’t go home. The reporters are likely already waiting there.”
“Let’s just go to the house in the suburbs,” the man replied carelessly.
The vehicle started and slowly made its way toward the outskirts of N City.
“Have all the statements clarifying the rumors been released?” the man suddenly asked after a while.
