Chapter 35: Looks Delicious
“Miss Lin, have some fruit,” Aunt Xu said as she brought over a plate of sliced apples and approached the bedside.
It was only then that Lin Nanxun shifted her attention from the television screen, turned to look at Aunt Xu, and then reached out with her uninjured right hand to pick up a small fork, eating a piece of apple while glancing at the rain still falling outside the window.
Aunt Xu checked the time, set the fruit plate on the bedside table, and, unable to hide her concern, offered a few gentle words of advice.
“I’m going to prepare dinner. Just stay here and watch TV, all right? If you need anything, call one of the other maids, okay?”
There was another maid in the hospital room, but Lin Nanxun was shy around strangers and always grew uneasy in their presence, so Aunt Xu had been the one looking after her closely, with the others only helping as needed.
Hearing Aunt Xu's words, Lin Nanxun looked at her for a moment, then nodded softly in agreement.
Seeing this, Aunt Xu smiled, then turned and left the room.
Lin Nanxun sat quietly on the bed, continuing to watch television.
A short while after Aunt Xu left, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open from outside.
“Sir.” The maid’s voice sounded immediately.
At this address, Lin Nanxun instinctively turned to the doorway and saw Shen Hanzhi and Zhou Bei walking in from the hall.
At the sight of Shen Hanzhi, Lin Nanxun’s mind went back to the events of the previous day, and a wave of gloom welled up inside her.
The villain wouldn’t let her watch TV, scolded her, and even wanted to send her to school.
She bit her lip gently, then turned her head away and fixed her gaze on the television once more.
…
Shen Hanzhi strode into the room, and when he saw the woman sitting on the bed watching TV, not sparing him even a glance, his brow furrowed ever so slightly.
Still angry?
It seemed Lu Yuanchong was right—she was not foolish; otherwise, she wouldn’t hold a grudge all day and still not let it go.
With that thought, he raised an eyebrow, glanced at the box of handmade nougat from that shop in his hand, and walked toward the bed.
Even when he reached her side, the little woman on the bed did not look at him, remaining absorbed in watching the television.
Shen Hanzhi stopped, his cold gaze lingering on her profile, which was tinged with emotion. Just as he was about to speak, Zhou Bei, noticing Aunt Xu’s absence, suddenly spoke up.
“Boss, Aunt Xu isn’t here. Should I just leave the candy here…” Zhou Bei said seriously, though he couldn’t quite understand why his boss had bought the candy for Aunt Xu but hadn’t brought any for Miss Lin.
At the sound of Zhou Bei’s words, Lin Nanxun, who had been watching TV with a serious expression, froze and instinctively turned her gaze to Shen Hanzhi’s… hand.
Sure enough, he was holding a pretty pink box, its contents looking delicious.
Was it candy?
Her eyes lit up instantly; her earlier gloom vanished without a trace.
From the moment he entered, Shen Hanzhi’s eyes had never left her, and every shift in her expression was caught by him.
A hint of amusement flickered in the depths of his dark eyes.
He arched an eyebrow and spoke in a calm, indifferent tone.
“Since Aunt Xu isn’t here, there’s no one to eat the candy. Just throw it away.”
With those words, he raised his hand to pass the box to Zhou Bei, who hesitated, momentarily at a loss.
Hearing him say he’d throw the box away, Lin Nanxun’s expression changed at once. She spoke up in a hurry, unable to hide her anxiety.
