Chapter 54: Wanting to Be the Most Important Woman in His Heart
However, it was truly unfortunate... Shen Han was not swayed in the least.
“I don’t have time,” Shen Han replied coldly, his expression indifferent.
He was busy, and had no patience for idle people.
Shen Han’s aloof attitude brought a flush of awkwardness to Qiao Yumeng’s face, prompting her to change the subject.
“I know you’ve been very busy lately. I made some soup for you, and baked little cakes as well.”
“As for your birthday, it’s fine if you don’t want to celebrate together, but I’d like to visit Uncle Shen with you. After all, I am your future wife.” Qiao Yumeng spoke gently as she handed the insulated container and cake box to Shen Han.
He made no move to accept them.
The expression on his face remained icy and unfeeling, sending a chill through her heart.
Sometimes, she couldn’t help but wonder if this man’s heart was capable of warmth...
Otherwise, why did all her humble efforts to win his affection yield nothing? His heart remained frozen.
She had liked him ever since she first saw him at sixteen. When she learned of their engagement, she was overjoyed, believing herself to be the happiest person in the world.
But...
Qiao Yumeng’s outstretched hand froze for a moment, then awkwardly set the items down on the desk.
“I’ll leave these here for you. Remember to try them later, and don’t work yourself too hard—your health matters most,” she said softly to Shen Han.
Still, he gave no response.
“Don’t use the Shen family to pressure me,” Shen Han said, his face chilling as a hint of ruthlessness crept into his voice.
He despised clever women who tried to manipulate him. She had miscalculated; to him, the Shen family meant nothing.
Qiao Yumeng was startled, her expression flustered as she hurried to explain.
“That’s not what I meant, Han. I just want to spend time with you…”
Her words were cut short by Shen Han’s frigid voice.
“You can go. There’s no need to come again.”
Qiao Yumeng’s face paled as she looked at him, unwilling to give up.
For so many years, she had tried to get close to him, believing that one day she would find a place in his eyes, in his heart.
She wanted to be Mrs. Shen, the most important woman in his life.
“I’ll go now. Remember not to overwork yourself—take care,” Qiao Yumeng said with a smile, though beneath her gentle facade lay a wealth of resentment.
Without another word, she turned and left, knowing better than to linger.
As she turned, her gaze swept past Zhou Bei’s feet, and she clearly saw a pair of women’s shoes—flats—behind him.
Qiao Yumeng’s expression changed, but, mindful of Shen Han’s temper, she dared not say anything more, swallowing her jealousy as she walked away.
...
After Qiao Yumeng departed, the office was finally quiet again.
Zhou Bei quickly stepped away from Lin Nanxun, feeling rather relieved.
Thankfully, Miss Lin had behaved and stayed silent, so she hadn’t been discovered.
Otherwise, if the Qiao family learned of her presence, it would have been troublesome.
Lin Nanxun glanced at the cake box and insulated container on the desk, then suddenly turned to Shen Han.
“Bad guy, will you marry her in the future?”
She had overheard, from behind Zhou Bei, that the woman claimed to be the bad guy’s future wife. That meant, in the end, they would get married.
