Chapter 31: Learning Mischief
“Meanie…” She looked at Shen Hanzhi and protested with a hint of dissatisfaction.
Why did he have to turn off the television and stop her from watching?
Compared to Lin Nanxun’s displeasure, Shen Hanzhi’s expression remained calm and composed. He continued flipping through the documents on his knee, unruffled, and said lightly, “Watching too much of that isn’t good for you.”
Hearing this, Lin Nanxun’s face grew puzzled. She asked him in confusion, “Why?” When she stayed at her uncle’s house, her aunt watched dramas every day, and nothing seemed amiss.
Her question made Shen Hanzhi pause. He lifted his gaze and glanced at her innocent face, pure and unblemished except for the confusion in her eyes, before replying coldly, “You might pick up bad habits.”
Pick up bad habits?
His words only deepened the bewilderment on Lin Nanxun’s face.
Shen Hanzhi, thinking she didn’t understand his meaning, didn’t elaborate further and returned to his documents.
But a few seconds later, her earnest, soft voice sounded again, “But my grandmother said that when people grow up, they fall in love and get married.” Of course, these were words her grandmother had told her while they watched dramas together, whenever she saw the leading couple embracing or kissing.
So she couldn’t understand why watching people kiss in dramas would lead to bad habits.
Her words made Shen Hanzhi frown, surprised at how much she seemed to comprehend.
Suddenly, he remembered what Lu Yuanchong had once said: she was not stupid, she simply shut away the complicated thoughts in her heart, or perhaps discarded them altogether…
So, she couldn’t be treated entirely like a child.
Yet, as Shen Hanzhi was lost in thought, Lin Nanxun’s persistent, puzzled voice called out again, “Is kissing a bad habit?”
Her straightforward question made the man’s expression shift abruptly; his handsome face darkened with discomfort.
No one had ever asked him such a question before, and he didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing him remain silent, Lin Nanxun couldn’t hold back her curiosity. She looked at him and called out again, “Meanie?”
Shen Hanzhi glanced at her, somewhat annoyed. “I told you not to call me ‘Meanie.’”
Apparently, her pain wasn’t enough—she still had energy to chatter.
At his words, Lin Nanxun nodded obediently, then continued, “Alright, then I’ll call you Zhi Zhi.” She thought ‘Zhi Zhi’ sounded nicer anyway.
Shen Hanzhi’s expression froze. He fixed his gaze on her clean, beautiful face for a moment, forcibly swallowing his irritation. Then he lifted the remote and turned the television back on.
As soon as the TV flickered to life, Lin Nanxun’s face brightened with delight, and she quickly focused her attention on the screen.
The drama was still playing, but the scene had changed—from the park to the bedroom, and the atmosphere was intense…
Before Lin Nanxun could grasp what was happening, Shen Hanzhi pressed the remote and switched the channel.
“Meanie, I want to watch…” Lin Nanxun said anxiously.
But the man sitting on the sofa ignored her, steadily pressing the remote, flipping channel after channel.
At last, he stopped on the children’s channel, where an animated series called “The Story of Little Lamb” was playing.
