Chapter 86: I Dare Not...
Watching Lin Nanxun, who had only learned the barest basics yet instantly beamed as if she had accomplished something remarkable, Shen Hanzhi found himself amused. The expression on his usually cold and handsome face softened unconsciously.
“Why don’t you try it yourself?” he said quietly, lips curling in a faint smile.
As his words fell, he let go of her hand. Lin Nanxun was startled, and her confident expression instantly faltered.
“I’m scared…”
Seeing her apprehension, Shen Hanzhi was unsurprised. He raised his eyebrows deliberately and asked, “Already afraid?”
At his words, Lin Nanxun hesitated, struggling for a moment before obediently nodding.
“Alright.”
She didn't want to let the villain down.
With that, she stood on the skateboard again, balancing on one foot, and tried to gently push off with the other, gradually picking up speed…
When she felt the speed was just right, she placed her other foot onto the board, standing fully upright.
“I did it!” she exclaimed, excitement in her voice.
But as soon as her words left her lips, the skateboard veered out of her control, heading straight toward the roadside grass.
Shen Hanzhi’s gaze sharpened.
Lin Nanxun, startled, trembled and lost her hard-won balance, her body tipping backward uncontrollably.
Just as she thought she was about to fall painfully, she heard footsteps approaching. Before she hit the ground, a pair of strong arms suddenly reached out and caught her, holding her securely around the waist.
Lin Nanxun froze, looking up at the handsome man before her.
Perhaps the fright had been too much; her heart was racing, especially now as she looked up at the villain, making it beat even faster.
Shen Hanzhi lowered his gaze, looking at the girl in his arms who had been scared silly and was staring blankly at him. A faint and almost imperceptible helplessness crossed his handsome face.
He sighed softly and moved his lips.
“That’s enough for today.”
He couldn’t push her too hard all at once.
Hearing his voice, Lin Nanxun slowly came back to herself and nodded.
Zhou Bei walked over, picked up the skateboard from the grass, and offered comfort.
“Miss Lin, you’re quite impressive. You’ve learned a lot in such a short time.”
Hearing Zhou Bei’s words, Lin Nanxun turned and gave him a grateful smile.
Just then, a flake of white crystal landed on her eyelashes.
Lin Nanxun paused, bewildered, and looked up.
Under the glow of the streetlamp, she saw scattered white snowflakes drifting slowly down from the pitch-black sky.
“It’s snowing…” she said with delight, raising her hand to catch a tiny snowflake.
It melted quickly in her palm.
Hearing her voice, Shen Hanzhi instinctively looked up at the sky as well. Seeing the snow, his heart remained unmoved.
To him, snow was no different from rain—merely a change in the weather, nothing special.
But when he lowered his gaze and saw the girl before him, so joyous as she caught snowflakes in her hand, his dark eyes flickered slightly.
When the snowflake in her palm had melted completely, leaving only a droplet, Lin Nanxun murmured softly,
“I wonder if we’ll be able to build a snowman tomorrow.”
