099 Dangerous, Striking Intelligence!
A clear chime rang out.
The intelligence system had been updated for the day.
1. At 10:10 a.m., a conflict will erupt at a gas station eight kilometers to the southeast.
2. Today, a zombie tide will break out in the city center. Thousands of undead will gather together. Special warning to the host: a fourth-tier mutated creature will appear.
3. Someone is watching the city from the tower atop the television station, and the host has already been spotted.
Among these three pieces of intelligence, the second was shown in glaring red type.
That alone made Xue Feng’s heart tighten.
A zombie tide, and a fourth-tier mutated creature.
Xue Feng had already seen for himself that a third-tier mutated creature could control a certain number of ordinary zombies.
From the ones he had encountered, the number was usually around three to five hundred.
And now a fourth-tier mutated creature had appeared.
The outbreak of the zombie tide was certainly caused by that creature.
Those zombies would be a tremendous threat.
Just thinking of several thousand undead charging toward his base made Xue Feng feel a chill crawl up his spine.
It was an utterly unimaginable scene of terror.
Only overwhelming firepower could hold back such a horde.
Wait.
Xue Feng suddenly thought of something.
The key to the zombie tide should be the fourth-tier mutated creature.
Because that creature had appeared, the tide had come into being.
As long as he dealt with the fourth-tier mutated creature, the tide should collapse.
At that thought, Xue Feng let out a breath of relief.
If several thousand zombies really threw themselves at the base, then his only choice would be to take his people and flee.
As for the other two pieces of intelligence, they also concerned him.
First was the place eight kilometers south of the city, already beyond the urban area and into the outskirts.
A conflict would break out there?
Gasoline.
It had to be over gasoline.
In the apocalypse, fuel was far too important.
Without gasoline, vehicles could not move, and wide-ranging operations would be impossible.
That also meant no effective search for supplies.
By now, most supplies in the city had already been stripped away.
Especially fuel. It should have been nearly exhausted.
Xue Feng had passed by several gas stations himself, and none of them had any fuel left.
What he had not expected was that the fighting had already spread all the way to the outskirts.
Most likely, when the apocalypse first broke out, many survivors had already left the city and gone to the outskirts to build bases.
That way, they avoided being surrounded by zombies from the very beginning.
He wondered who was fighting whom this time.
The intelligence was vague, but Xue Feng would definitely go and see for himself.
What else surprised him was this:
The television tower was the tallest building in the city.
He had not expected someone to have been watching from there all this time.
They had probably already discovered his trail.
Impossible to guard against.
Still, Xue Feng knew that it was only a matter of time before his base was exposed.
With so many people active in the city, how could they possibly avoid attracting attention?
The real question was what to do next.
He needed to find out what faction those people belonged to, and what purpose they had in keeping watch over so much of the city.
If they meant him no harm, then there was no issue.
But if their intentions were hostile, then they should not blame him for showing no mercy.
As for the television station building, Hao Yifei should be quite familiar with that place.
After all, as a famous star, she had probably gone there often to record programs.
So after breakfast, Xue Feng told her to come with him on a trip.
The moment she heard they were going out, Hao Yifei instantly grew excited.
She had long since been impatient to prove her worth.
Whether it was searching for supplies or handling other matters, she could do it all.
She was not here to freeload.
No matter what, she was an ability user too, and it was time to make use of her powers.
The armored vehicle roared to life and headed toward the southern outskirts.
On the way, Xue Feng asked whether Hao Yifei had ever been to the television station.
“Of course I have. I did several programs there,” Hao Yifei answered at once.
“Then have you ever been to the tower on the top floor?” Xue Feng asked.
“The tower on the top floor?”
“I haven’t. That area is usually sealed off. You can only get up there by taking the stairs,” Hao Yifei said after thinking about it.
She was curious why Xue Feng was asking about the tower at the television station.
Did he want to go up and take a look?
Or was there some other reason?
Thinking of that, Hao Yifei’s face suddenly flushed red.
She had once heard that there had been a powerful man who especially liked being with his lover in high-rise buildings.
The feeling of overlooking the entire city from above was said to be wonderfully unique.
Could Xue Feng be thinking the same thing?
What would she do then?
Hao Yifei’s heart was pounding like a startled deer.
Xue Feng naturally did not notice what she was thinking. He was busy considering how to use these three pieces of intelligence.
He wanted to maximize his own gains.
Very soon, a plan began to take shape in his mind.
But before that, he still needed more information.
Along the way, Xue Feng did not drive fast. He was timing it carefully.
According to the intelligence, the conflict would erupt at 10:10.
On the way to the southern outskirts, Xue Feng noticed that the road was surprisingly clear.
There were almost no cars blocking the way.
That was strange. When the apocalypse broke out, the city had been in chaos and the roads were jammed everywhere.
The only explanation was that someone had once passed through here.
“Where exactly are we going? I thought we were heading to the television station,” Hao Yifei could not help asking as she watched the vehicle continue into the suburbs.
Around them, the tall buildings had all but disappeared, replaced by low houses, and occasionally broad stretches of farmland.
There were only a few zombies scattered along the road.
“We’re not going to the television station first. We’re going to watch something interesting,” Xue Feng said with a smile.
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of gunfire suddenly came from not far away.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
People were fighting.
Xue Feng looked toward the source of the gunfire and could already see the outline of a gas station in the distance.
“All right, let’s get out. You’re wearing body armor, right?” Xue Feng said, turning to look at Hao Yifei.
Among the supplies in the armory, there was still a portion of body armor left.
Xue Feng did not need it. He had the ability Stone Skin.
Its defensive power was far better than body armor, and wearing armor would only slow him down.
But the people around him needed it.
“Yes!” Hao Yifei nodded quickly, her expression turning serious.
“Good.”
This time Xue Feng had no intention of launching a sneak attack. He was only here to verify the intelligence.
There was no need for a direct confrontation, and the body armor was merely a safeguard.
After the two of them got out, Xue Feng immediately stored the armored vehicle back into his spatial backpack.
Using the cover of the trees along the roadside, he and Hao Yifei quietly approached the gas station.
Very soon, Xue Feng saw more than a dozen vehicles parked beside the road not far from the station.
Those vehicles seemed to belong to two different factions, and both sides were exchanging tentative gunfire.
