To take on the Red Flower Society for the sake of someone he’d only met twice—that took courage. Tang Qiqiang and the others couldn’t help but exchange glances. They hadn’t expected to encounter someone like Xue Feng in this apocalypse.

“Brother Xue, to be honest, I’m also an awakened,” Tang Qiqiang admitted after a slight cough.

“Oh, you’re one too?” Xue Feng was a little surprised, but then it made sense. If Tang Qiqiang hadn’t possessed such abilities, it would have been impossible for him to have contended with the Red Flower Society for so long.

Still, Xue Feng was curious. Earlier, in the pet shop, Tang Qiqiang and his people had been cornered with no way out. Why hadn’t Tang Qiqiang used his powers then?

“Yes, but my power isn’t combat-related. It’s of no use in a fight,” Tang Qiqiang replied with a bitter smile. For a broad-faced middle-aged man like him, it was surprising that his ability wasn’t suited for battle.

“So what exactly is your power?” Xue Feng’s interest was piqued. Every awakened he’d met so far had combat abilities—except for Zhao Weisuo, whose power was more of a support type, though it still enhanced combat prowess, just in a different way.

“I’ll show you,” Tang Qiqiang said, nodding at a man nearby. The man immediately understood and brought over a basin of aloe. After the apocalypse, only these kinds of plants, which didn’t need much water, had survived.

Tang Qiqiang placed both hands over the aloe plant. Before their eyes, the leaves began to grow at a speed visible to the naked eye, soon reaching over a meter in length.

“That’s impressive!” Xue Feng couldn’t help but exclaim, his eyes lighting up. In these end times, food was the scarcest resource. With Tang Qiqiang’s power, plants could be rapidly cultivated—vegetables and grains could mature in advance. This made Xue Feng look at Tang Qiqiang with newfound respect. Even powers that weren’t combat-related could help them hold their own against the Red Flower Society.

“It’s a rather useless power, honestly. I’d rather have something simple and direct,” Tang Qiqiang replied with a bitter grin, sweat already beading on his forehead. He would have preferred an ability that could be used in a fight, as the greatest threats now were zombies and hostile survivors, not the lack of fresh vegetables. Rapidly growing plants was exhausting and seemed to have little use under the current circumstances.

After all, what they faced now wasn’t a shortage of vegetables—it was threats to their very lives.

“Don’t worry. I’ll handle the Red Flower Society this time. You don’t need to be on the front lines. Once we’ve dealt with them, I’d like to work with you,” Xue Feng said, already making plans in his mind. Though Tang Qiqiang’s current achievements seemed limited, this power, once properly developed, could become invaluable.

“No, I can’t let you do all the work! We’ll fight alongside you,” Tang Qiqiang replied, his expression turning solemn.

“All you need to do is look after Li Wangmiao for me,” Xue Feng waved him off. That was his only request: for Tang Qiqiang to keep Li Wangmiao safe.

Without hesitation, Tang Qiqiang signaled a nearby man with his eyes. The man nodded and left at once. Their silent coordination was evident—no words were needed, just a glance or a gesture, and everyone knew what to do.

Soon, the man returned with a woman in tow. She looked gentle and kind, with long hair and no makeup, yet her beauty was evident from her features alone. She appeared to be in her thirties, still graceful and elegant.

“This is my wife,” Tang Qiqiang introduced, and then asked her to take Li Wangmiao to the safe house. Of all the residential buildings in the complex, only one was occupied by their group, tightly guarded by over a dozen men. Unlike before, when survivors were scattered across many buildings, this arrangement prevented the Red Flower Society from taking advantage of their absence during food searches and launching an attack, thus avoiding a repeat of past tragedies.

“You go ahead. Black Panther, you too,” Xue Feng instructed, having Black Panther accompany Li Wangmiao to help if anything went wrong.

“Be careful,” Li Wangmiao said, looking back at Xue Feng with reluctant concern before leaving. She already regarded him as someone important and didn’t want to see him hurt.

“Don’t worry,” Xue Feng replied with a smile. Once Tang Qiqiang’s wife had led Li Wangmiao away, Tang Qiqiang produced a hand-drawn map of Tiancheng Residential Complex. According to him, some survivors in their group had lived there before and were very familiar with its layout.

“There are three entrances to Tiancheng Complex. Two are completely barricaded to keep zombies out, and there’s only one gate left for entering and exiting,” Tang Qiqiang explained. “If we want to attack the Red Flower Society, I suggest we do it at night—a surprise attack through one of the blocked entrances. We can split up and attack from both sides so they won’t know which is the real front.”

As he spoke, he gestured over the map, demonstrating his strategic mindset. Clearly, he’d studied the complex’s defenses and had already devised this plan, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Otherwise, they would eventually be picked off by the Red Flower Society one by one.

“It’s a good plan, but I have a better one,” Xue Feng said with a smile.

“Oh? What is it?” Tang Qiqiang asked, anticipation showing on his face. Could it have to do with Xue Feng’s power? Tang Qiqiang hadn’t seen clearly what Xue Feng’s power was—he’d only heard screams, and then the Red Flower Society’s men were dead.

“We just charge in and kill everyone from the Red Flower Society we see,” Xue Feng replied calmly.

Everyone was stunned. That was his plan? Wasn’t it a bit too blunt and straightforward?

“But… the Red Flower Society has a lot of people, some with powers. Shouldn’t we be a bit more careful?” Tang Qiqiang asked, coughing awkwardly—not doubting Xue Feng’s ability, but finding this approach a bit too reckless.

“If you’re afraid, don’t come. Once this is over, I need to get back for dinner,” Xue Feng said as he stood up.

What? He was attacking in broad daylight just so he could get back for dinner? Was that even a reason?

Before Tang Qiqiang could react, Xue Feng had already opened the door and walked out.

“Boss, what should we do?” the others in the room asked anxiously. Wasn’t this just walking to their deaths?

“He saved our lives. Whatever he wants to do, we’ll follow!” Tang Qiqiang gritted his teeth and was the first to head out. The others exchanged glances and followed as well.

When they reached the ground floor, they were all stunned.
