120. Boarding the Helicopter
"It's a rescue helicopter!" Lu Hua was so excited he nearly jumped for joy. He immediately grabbed Feng Fa'er by the arm and started sprinting toward the rooftop.
"But there are people coming up from below to rescue us," Feng Fa'er protested, unable to stop herself from being dragged along. She knew perfectly well that rescuers were on their way.
"Are you out of your mind? There are only three of them down there! But that is a rescue helicopter! Once we're on that, we never have to worry about food or safety ever again!" Lu Hua was frantic with agitation. He preferred to place his faith in the helicopter above.
"What about the people coming up? They climbed all the way up here to save us—shouldn't we wait for them?" Feng Fa'er couldn't help but ask.
"Ha! That helicopter doesn't have room for many people. If you don't want to come, I won't force you." Lu Hua simply let go of her hand and dashed toward the roof.
Feng Fa'er panicked and immediately chased after him. She knew Lu Hua was right; if they could board that helicopter, they would surely be taken to a safe place with clean water and food. She would never have to eat human flesh again! As for the people coming to rescue her, she cast them from her mind. Perhaps that man was only coming to save her because he had designs on her beauty. Hmph! Typical man. And with two women following him, he clearly wasn't a good person either.
In truth, Feng Fa'er was no saint herself. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to sell so many counterfeit, inferior products with a clear conscience.
The two soon reached the roof, while Xue Feng and his group had just reached the fifth floor. The stairwell was blocked by sofas, but Xue Feng broke through with ease.
"Brother Xue, something isn't right here!" An Xiaowei pointed to a large trail of blood on the floor. It looked as if a body had been dragged away.
"There's blood over there, too. Could the survivors here be cannibals?" You Haoyun frowned. Both women had seen their fair share of battles by now and immediately sensed that something was amiss.
"There's the smell of blood in the air, too," Xue Feng said, narrowing his eyes. Although he didn't know how many survivors remained, the evidence was clear: the people here had resorted to cannibalism.
The thought that the beautiful young woman they had seen at the window earlier was a cannibal left You Haoyun feeling incredulous. But she quickly composed herself. It was the apocalypse; anything was possible. If someone had told her before all this that she would one day be smashing open zombie skulls to find energy cores, she wouldn't have believed it either.
"Brother Xue, the survivors here aren't worth saving," An Xiaowei said, shaking her head. No matter the circumstances, she could not accept cannibalism.
"Wait, there's the sound of rotors. It’s right above us on the roof." Xue Feng caught the noise of the helicopter. Had the pilot seen the flag on the roof and decided to stop? This was a perfect opportunity for a close encounter with a helicopter! Xue Feng wanted to see exactly who was flying it. He suspected this stroke of luck was likely triggered by You Haoyun. It seemed there were benefits to bringing her along after all—perhaps good things just followed her. Otherwise, it might have taken him ages to find this aircraft on his own.
"Let's go up and see," Xue Feng said.
But when they reached the roof, they were a step too late. The helicopter had just taken off.
"Sorry to make you run for nothing! Ha! You can stay here—maybe the next rescue helicopter will come for you!" Lu Hua leaned out, shouting down at them with a mocking, gloating expression.
Sitting inside the chopper, Feng Fa'er felt a twinge of embarrassment, but mostly, she felt relieved. She was lucky to have made it on board. As Lu Hua had said, the helicopter was small and could seat at most five people. Aside from the pilot, there was another man in a white lab coat—likely a doctor. If the three people below had caught up, there wouldn't have been enough room, and she and Lu Hua would likely have been the ones left behind. After all, those three were armed.
As the helicopter climbed higher, moving away from the office building, Feng Fa'er let out a sigh of relief and decided to cozy up to the doctor. Relying on her charms as a woman, she hoped to leave a good impression.
"Hello, my name is Feng Fa'er. I used to be a live-streamer—a pretty big influencer, actually. If you watch streams often, you might recognize me." She brushed her hair back, trying to look her best, though she knew her skin had lost its luster from prolonged starvation.
"You're an influencer? That's great! I love influencers!" The doctor grinned, reaching out a hand.
Feng Fa'er felt a chill at the look in his eyes. She sensed something was wrong with him, but since he claimed to like influencers, she forced a smile. "Nice to meet you. What's your name?" She reached out to shake his hand.
"Just call me Dr. Yang. I prefer it that way." Dr. Yang gripped her hand, his other hand beginning to stroke her skin incessantly.
Feng Fa'er jumped, panic rising as she tried to pull her hand away, but Dr. Yang's grip was surprisingly strong. She couldn't break free.
"Dr. Yang, she's a tramp anyway. She's been with plenty of her top donors. Don't be shy," Lu Hua chimed in, fawning over the doctor.
What! Hearing Lu Hua speak of her that way, Feng Fa'er felt like she might faint from rage. It was true that she had slept with many of her top donors—they had tipped her hundreds of thousands, after all; surely that meant they wanted to sleep with her. And it wasn't just them; Lu Hua had sneaked into her room plenty of times as well. But for him to say this now, he was clearly using her as a tool to curry favor with Dr. Yang. How would the doctor see her now?
"Are you an influencer too? A big one?" Dr. Yang turned his gaze toward Lu Hua.
"I suppose you could say so," Lu Hua replied after a moment's thought. He didn't want to admit he was a wealthy boss; he knew many people were resentful of the rich.
"I hear you influencers love doing challenges. How about you do one for me?" A manic glint flashed in Dr. Yang’s eyes.
"What kind of challenge?" Lu Hua felt a sudden, ominous foreboding.
