015 Frightening You Haoyun
Gazing at the prompt in his mind, Xue Feng was certain—these must be the very murderers and looters mentioned in the first piece of intelligence. A chill flickered in his eyes at the thought. Yet the others seemed oblivious.
“Wonderful! I can’t believe we found more survivors. Our group is finally growing stronger,” someone exclaimed.
“You must be starving, right? Why don’t you come and have something to eat?”
“Do you have a place to stay? If not, you’re welcome to stay with us. This supermarket is quite nice after our renovations.”
The group welcomed the three with open arms, even bringing out freshly prepared food and drinks, clearly intending to celebrate the expansion of their ranks.
You Haoyun’s eyes lit up at their warm hospitality. Just when she thought there was no way out, hope appeared again—a village beyond the dark willows and winding streams!
She had thought she’d be under Xue Feng’s thumb for the rest of her life, never expecting to meet such kind people so soon.
“This is wonderful. Let’s stay here for now,” You Haoyun suggested, seizing the opportunity to try and shake off Xue Feng.
Yet, for reasons she couldn’t explain, the moment she looked at him, memories of last night involuntarily surfaced in her mind...
“You can stay if you want,” Xue Feng replied coolly, casting her a sidelong glance. He mused that this woman’s mind was still a little muddled—he’d have to find a way to set her straight.
As the two conversed, all eyes in the room turned to them. The women stared at Xue Feng, while the men’s gazes lingered on An Xiaowei and You Haoyun.
“All right, all right, let’s eat first. You must be hungry after fleeing all day,” someone offered, attempting to ease the tension.
Fuming inside, You Haoyun shot Xue Feng a glare and promptly joined the group, blending in and tucking in heartily before long.
Watching her back, a plan began to take shape in Xue Feng’s mind.
“Xiaowei, let’s eat something too. I’m starving,” he said.
“Huh? Oh!” An Xiaowei hesitated. He could sense the ill intentions in the group—after all, in an apocalypse, who would willingly share their supplies? Still, hearing Xue Feng’s suggestion, he nodded.
As Xue Feng casually draped an arm around An Xiaowei, he slipped a detoxification pill into her mouth without drawing attention.
“Swallow it,” he whispered.
“Come, eat up! These are rare supplies—you can’t just find this food out there!”
“Whether you stay or not, it’s fate that brings us together. Let’s all have a drink!” The man in the suit was all smiles, not touching the food himself, but constantly urging the three to eat.
Having taken the antidote in advance, Xue Feng no longer felt threatened. Though still suspicious, An Xiaowei followed his lead and ate as well.
Everyone harbored their own secrets—except for You Haoyun, who seemed genuinely famished. She dove into the feast, much to the dismay of the affluent survivors, but with the plan ahead, they forced themselves to keep up appearances.
Before long, the table was cleared of food and drink. Satisfied, You Haoyun let out a belch. Just as she was about to ask to see her room, a sudden wave of dizziness struck her, and she collapsed.
“It seems the drug is taking effect,” Xue Feng thought. Having taken the antidote, he felt nothing amiss, but feigned dizziness and squeezed An Xiaowei’s hand to signal her to follow suit.
Soon, all three were sprawled on the floor.
“Damn it!” With the three down, the group in the supermarket dropped their act. The previously refined man in the suit glared viciously at You Haoyun lying on the ground.
“She looks slim, but she ate so much of our supplies—what a waste!”
“Let it go, Li. We lost some supplies, but we’ve still come out ahead,” said a short man, pointing at the apparently unconscious Xue Feng. “This guy’s built—he’ll last us several days.”
“Right, and before we finish him off, we might reel in another batch of suckers.”
“True enough...” With these reassurances, the suited man relaxed a bit.
“Forget it. Lock these two women up. I’m going to enjoy myself later!” he declared. “Don’t worry, fellas—after I’m done, you each get your turn. I promise everyone gets a piece!”
“Yes!” The promise of a share lit up everyone’s eyes.
“Boss, what about the man?” one of the few women in the group asked. “Can we have him first...?”
“First, nothing! He’s only had a little sedative—who knows when he might wake up? Kill him now. If you want something, come to me!” the suited man snapped.
With his word final, the women gave up on Xue Feng.
“Heh, look at those muscles. He must’ve been an athlete,” the short man sneered, brandishing a watermelon knife as he eyed Xue Feng’s prone body. “I bet he tastes great.”
He could hardly wait—raising the knife high.
But just then—
A surge of numbness shot up from his feet, sweeping through his body in an instant. The short man collapsed, powerless.
Xue Feng decided it was time to drop the act. Under the group’s terrified stares, he rose calmly, dusting off his clothes.
“I’d thought to spare your lives and put you to work. But you wanted to kill me the moment I arrived,” he said coldly. “Looks like you’ll be the ones to die first.”
In a flash, lightning arced through the air.
With his Divine Thunder now at level three, Xue Feng still couldn’t instantly kill mutants, but it was more than enough to incapacitate ordinary people, and the strain was much less.
In the blink of an eye, everyone who’d surrounded him was convulsing on the ground.
“Witchcraft!” someone gasped.
“You’re a mutant—a zombie!” the suited man stammered, petrified by the sight of Xue Feng conjuring lightning with his bare hands. Unaware of superpowers, he could only categorize Xue Feng as a mutant.
“Idiot,” Xue Feng retorted, picking up the watermelon knife and shooting the man a contemptuous look. “Do you see any mutants this handsome?”
Before the words had faded, the knife shot from his hand like a dart, burying itself in the man’s throat. The suited man was dead before he knew what hit him.
Xue Feng drew a long blade from his storage and methodically finished off the paralyzed survivors.
“Brother, what about You Haoyun?” An Xiaowei asked softly after helping clean up the scene.
Xue Feng glanced at You Haoyun, still unconscious, and a cunning glint flickered in his eyes.
“Here’s what you do—first this, then that, then the other...”
“Got it!” An Xiaowei tittered after hearing the plan. “When You Haoyun wakes up, she’s going to be scared out of her mind—hahaha...”
