075 The Terrifying Tier-Three Mutant!
“Damn it, that's a third-tier mutant!”
Zhao Bin, standing in the distance, wore a look of terror.
Clearly, Zhao Bin knew what a third-tier mutant was.
A third-tier mutant!
When this news spread, every guard present was filled with dread.
They had seen second-tier mutants before,
so they could well imagine just how terrifying the power of a third-tier mutant must be.
The third-tier mutant bit through the heads of two men, draining them clean with something from its tongue,
then tossed the empty skulls to the ground
and continued its hunt for other survivors,
focusing first and foremost on those with abilities.
It seemed to have a particular craving for the brain matter of gifted ones.
If it was an ordinary human, it would simply kill them and toss them aside.
There were already few gifted individuals in the base, and in the blink of an eye, half had been slaughtered.
Zhao Bin became its next target.
He watched as silken threads shot toward him.
“Fight!”
With a furious roar, Zhao Bin slashed out with his steel arms.
Rip!
The threads were severed, but Zhao Bin’s face darkened.
He instantly felt his arms go numb, violet marks spreading across his skin.
Poison!
The threads were laced with venom.
But the third-tier mutant had locked onto him, firing thread after thread in relentless succession.
Zhao Bin could only retreat desperately, dodging the mutant’s attacks.
He knew he was no match for this monster.
“Damn it! We can't hold this place! Everyone, fall back!”
As the attacks grew fiercer, Zhao Bin turned and fled.
Retreat?
Retreat to where?
There was nowhere left to run.
Everyone was stunned by this,
not expecting their captain, Zhao Bin, to be the first to flee.
But no one hesitated now—everyone scrambled for their lives.
The area was swarming with zombies; they were surrounded on all sides.
Soon, the guards without abilities were completely overwhelmed by the undead,
and only a handful of survivors managed to escape.
Zhao Bin cursed bitterly in his heart.
What the hell was happening?
First, he was attacked out of nowhere by Hao Yifei, and now he’d run into a third-tier mutant!
That thing was simply too powerful to contend with.
If he didn’t run now, when could he?
He knew losing the base would mean punishment from the boss,
but Zhao Bin had already decided he would never go back.
He would just leave this place and join another base.
As an ability user, wherever he went, people would fawn over him.
The thought brought a smug smile to his lips.
As long as he survived, everyone else was just a stepping stone.
Suddenly, Zhao Bin’s grin froze on his face.
Blood trickled down the split in his skull.
A longsword had come crashing down on his head from behind,
splitting his skull in two.
With a dull thud, his corpse fell rigidly to the ground.
Even in death, Zhao Bin never understood
how he had been killed.
Xue Feng wiped the blood from his nanoblade, a cold smirk on his lips.
Trying to flee right under my nose?
Dream on!
The real cause of your death was failing to realize there was someone in this base even more terrifying than a third-tier mutant.
Having dispatched Zhao Bin, Xue Feng turned around.
By now, the third-tier mutant had set its sights on Hao Yifei and launched a fierce assault.
All the survivors around Hao Yifei had perished;
only zombies remained.
Despair clouded Hao Yifei’s features. She had tried to escape earlier,
but it was already too late.
There was no chance left for her.
Was she really going to die here?
Have her head devoured by that monster?
Hao Yifei refused to accept it. Never in her life had she been cornered like this.
There must be… there had to be a chance.
But her strength was enough to fight a second-tier mutant,
not a third-tier one.
She knew she was doomed.
She was the only living person left in the base.
Zombies had already stormed into the building, butchering the female survivors inside.
Screams echoed relentlessly.
Just as Hao Yifei was about to give in to despair,
the third-tier mutant suddenly halted its attack,
raising its head to look in another direction.
Its gaze burned with greed,
as if it had spotted something even more delicious.
Instinctively, Hao Yifei looked over as well.
It was a man holding a longsword.
Who was he?
Why hadn’t he fled like the others?
Hao Yifei was baffled.
Stranger still, why had the third-tier mutant been drawn to him?
Weren’t those monsters more interested in ability users?
With a roar,
the mutant spewed threads from its mouth again.
“Child’s play,”
Xue Feng snorted, sheathing his nanoblade in his spatial pack.
A moment later, a bolt of lightning as thick as an arm shot from his hand.
The lightning instantly incinerated the threads to ash and struck the mutant squarely in the mouth.
With a howl,
the mutant screamed in agony, half its face charred black.
Yet, miraculously, it didn’t fall;
in fact, it was completely enraged.
It slammed six legs into the ground and leapt,
soaring seven or eight meters high.
“Stubborn, aren’t you?”
Xue Feng was momentarily surprised, but not overly so.
Mutants could never be judged by common sense.
Some of them even possessed basic intelligence, commanding lesser zombies to lay siege here.
Still, the power of a third-tier mutant was nothing that could threaten Xue Feng.
He’d tangled with such monsters before.
As the beast crashed down from above,
“Divine Lightning: Thunder Sphere!”
Xue Feng brought his hands together, conjuring a sphere of lightning the size of a soccer ball.
One glance was enough to feel the immense power gathered within.
Since the system upgraded his Divine Lightning ability, its might was even greater.
The next moment, he hurled it with deadly force.
With a thunderous boom,
the third-tier mutant exploded in midair, dismembered before it hit the ground.
Legs scattered everywhere, and its head flew far away.
By the time the head landed, Xue Feng was already there, splitting it open with his sword.
Inside was a crystal core the size of an apple.
He pocketed it without hesitation.
At this moment, Xue Feng’s stats had once again improved significantly.
[Current Host Attribute Panel]:
Strength: 41
Agility: 42
Spirit: 30
Endurance: 45
Luck: 38 (+100)
Abilities: Divine Lightning (Tier 2, Level 2), Stone Skin (Tier 2, Level 1), Time Zero (Tier 2)
Apart from the rewards gained in battle,
he had also received a system reward for witnessing the third-tier mutant: all attributes +1.
But Xue Feng had no time to check his stats; his gaze was fixed on Hao Yifei.
She watched him warily.
Even if she was confused before, she understood now:
for someone as powerful as Xue Feng to hide in their base, he must have had ulterior motives.
“You’ve been poisoned. This will cure you.”
Xue Feng tossed her a small pill.
The system had originally given him fifty universal antidotes,
and he hadn’t used any yet.
Just now, Hao Yifei had been struck by the mutant’s threads and was beginning to feel numb.
She caught the pill instinctively,
but with a stranger offering her something, how could she dare to take it?
