108 The Blood Corpse Is Watching You!
Qin Fengshan was tense, his mind completely unable to process Xue Feng’s words. Because his head was turned backward, he could clearly see the hideous face of the Blood Corpse, as well as the tidal wave of zombies surging behind him. Nothing could be more terrifying. Fortunately, Xue Feng was incredibly fast, moving almost like a cheetah. He darted through the city streets toward the eastern suburbs, slowly widening the gap between them and the Blood Corpse. However, the clouds of dust rising behind Xue Feng signaled the movement of thousands of zombies; he had successfully lured the horde.
"Alright, time to get in the vehicle!" Seeing they were less than three kilometers from the cannery, Xue Feng finally stopped, tossed Qin Fengshan onto the ground, and brought out his Doomsday Armored Vehicle.
The Blood Corpse had followed him for so long that Xue Feng was certain he had provoked it—or rather, that the creature was obsessed with his head. Once a zombie horde was set in motion, it was difficult to stop. To ensure the Blood Corpse remained in pursuit, Xue Feng used his nano-axe to slice open his palm, letting the blood drip onto the ground. He knew the creature would be drawn by the scent.
"Right!" Qin Fengshan had been jostled so violently along the way he felt he might vomit blood, but he scrambled into the armored vehicle. He knew full well that staying behind meant death.
The armored vehicle roared to life and headed toward the cannery. Along the way, Qin Fengshan pointed out the locations of hidden sentries, usually perched in trees; aside from mutants, ordinary zombies could not climb. "Don't worry about that. Tell me how many people are at the cannery and where the supplies are kept," Xue Feng said, waving a hand.
"There should be over three hundred people now. The supplies are all kept in the cannery's warehouse," Qin Fengshan replied immediately. Of those three hundred, only about fifty were original employees of the cannery. Nearly half had been killed by the leader, and the rest, including Qin Fengshan, had submitted to survive. The others were survivors gathered along the way. The leader’s criteria for selecting survivors were simple: loyalty and strength. "The entrance to the cannery is blocked by two trucks," Qin Fengshan added.
"Heh, nothing can stop my armored vehicle," Xue Feng said calmly.
As he spoke, the cannery appeared in his field of vision. It was massive—nearly half the size of the Riverside Villa complex. It was no wonder someone had chosen it as a stronghold. The sky was darkening, making it difficult to see the road ahead, but he could faintly see lights inside the plant. It seemed they had a small power supply, likely from a diesel generator.
Suddenly, a piercing alarm sounded. The guards at the gate must have spotted the armored vehicle approaching. Xue Feng slammed on the accelerator, and the vehicle roared toward the gate.
*Thud!*
The armored vehicle easily smashed through the trucks blocking the path. It drove straight into the compound and, directed by Qin Fengshan, charged toward the warehouse. The warehouse doors were smashed open, and the vehicle burst inside. Sure enough, the warehouse was filled with supplies. At a glance, one could see crates of packed food, clothing, and other daily necessities.
"Enemies have broken into the warehouse!"
Guards swarmed from all sides, immediately opening fire on the armored vehicle. *Rat-a-tat-tat!* Though it was unclear where they had acquired firearms, they unleashed a barrage of bullets. Sparks showered the exterior of the armored vehicle as the bullets struck and ricocheted off. Standard ammunition had no hope of piercing the vehicle’s armor.
However, the guards soon realized with horror that a massive number of zombies were rushing through the gate like rabid dogs. Because the path was narrow, some zombies were shoved aside, but that did not stop them; they scrambled over the two-meter-high walls and flooded into the courtyard. The guards had never seen such terrifying zombies—fast, incredibly strong, and capable of climbing walls. Many were caught off guard and tackled to the ground, where they were swarmed and devoured until not even bones remained.
Qin Fengshan’s face went pale watching the scene. If he hadn't run into Xue Feng, he would likely be among those being devoured. Even hiding in the TV tower might not have saved them from this horde.
It was absolutely horrifying. Qin Fengshan felt a sense of relief that Xue Feng had lured the horde to the outskirts; if it had erupted within the city, every survivor group there would likely have been wiped out.
The influx of the horde into the cannery stirred everyone into action. Ability users began to appear one after another to battle the zombies. According to Qin Fengshan, there were seven ability users in the base. Xue Feng had already killed one, leaving six, including the leader. He had to admit, these ability users were formidable. One of them managed to instantly create a massive pit, at least twenty or thirty meters wide, luring a large number of zombies into it. While it couldn't stop the horde entirely, it eased the pressure.
Then, a massive black shadow appeared out of thin air. Wherever the shadow passed, zombies vanished entirely, dragged off to who-knew-where. Relying on these ability users, they were actually holding the line. Xue Feng recognized the shadow—it was the same one he had seen near the gas station. It really was that guy!
But while he saw the shadow, where was the leader? Was he hiding in the shadows, controlling it all? Xue Feng couldn't help but admire how powerful and eerie the ability was; the leader didn't even need to show his face to fight.
Suddenly, Xue Feng realized something. "He's gone," Xue Feng said, narrowing his eyes.
"What's gone?" Qin Fengshan asked, confused.
"The Blood Corpse. That Blood Corpse is gone," Xue Feng said slowly. The creature had been following right behind him. How could it be missing now that the horde had stormed the cannery? Where on earth had it gone?
Just as he finished speaking, red liquid began to drip onto the windshield of the armored vehicle. The liquid rolled across the glass as if it were alive. Qin Fengshan looked up in terror. The Blood Corpse’s hideous face was peering down at them from above the glass. It was clinging to the roof of the armored vehicle, wearing a twisted smile—the joy of a predator that had finally caught its prey.
