Chapter 059: Missing
Zhao Feng asked, “When is she coming?”
Chen Ying hesitated a little.
“What’s wrong?” Zhao Feng asked considerately.
Chen Ying lowered her head, looking as if she’d made a mistake. “Zhao Feng, there’s something I need to tell you, but please don’t get angry!”
Zhao Feng rolled his eyes. “Just say it. I won’t get angry!”
“That’s good!”
Chen Ying smiled. “She’s already in Huai’an County! I didn’t tell you in advance—I arranged for her to come early!”
“So that’s it. I thought it was something serious! You really underestimate my tolerance.”
“Hehehe!” Chen Ying stuck out her tongue and grinned mischievously.
She chuckled, “I even promised Li Dan that you’d agree. I was really worried you’d say no!”
Zhao Feng rolled his eyes again. “So you went around bragging.”
“Hmph!” Chen Ying huffed in feigned anger, looking absolutely adorable.
Zhao Feng grabbed an army-green jacket—one that Chen Ying had given him.
When Zhao Feng returned from the Immortal Sect, he didn’t have a single piece of clothing to his name, except for a pair of worn-out jeans and a white T-shirt.
He had searched for ages to find even those, as no one in the Immortal Sect wore modern clothes. They all wore traditional robes and long garments.
Zhao Feng put on the jacket. “Let’s go. Let’s pick up Li Dan!”
“Right now?” Chen Ying blinked.
“Yes! There’s no time to waste!”
“Aren’t we eating first?”
“No need!”
“All right!”
The two of them went downstairs.
Li Ping was playing with the pigeons that Zhao Jun kept.
Zhao Feng came up behind Li Ping and gave him a kick right on the backside.
“Ow!”
Li Ping turned around, clutching his rear, and looked at Zhao Feng with wounded eyes. “What was that for?”
Zhao Feng rolled his eyes. “Well, Li Ping, you didn’t even tell me about your sister!”
Li Ping blinked. “You know about it?”
Zhao Feng nodded.
“And you agreed?”
Zhao Feng nodded again.
“Yeah!!”
Li Ping jumped up with joy and gave Zhao Feng a big bear hug.
With a loud smack, Li Ping planted a kiss right on Zhao Feng’s handsome face.
“Hey! What the—?”
Zhao Feng recoiled in shock. “Li Ping, I don’t go for that! Get out of here!”
“Haha! I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving! Let’s see you get mad!”
Zhao Feng didn’t really get angry; he just rolled his eyes.
Watching Li Ping and Zhao Feng roughhouse, Chen Ying smiled knowingly from the side.
Days like these were so wonderful—she wished she could stay in this moment forever.
By the time the three left the house, it was already two in the afternoon.
Li Ping drove the car, excitement making him speed along the road. The car bumped and jolted over the muddy, uneven track.
Zhao Feng and Chen Ying sat in the backseat, and Zhao Feng couldn’t help but notice a certain softness beside him.
It took only half an hour before they reached the town.
Zhao Feng yawned. “Chen Ying, which hotel is Li Dan staying at?”
Chen Ying smiled. “The Ximan Hotel! I already sent the location to Li Ping!”
Li Ping grinned. “We’re here!”
“Let’s get out, then!”
“All right!”
Li Ping parked the car and the three got out.
Zhao Feng looked up to see a huge sign overhead—Ximan Hotel.
They walked through the luxurious revolving glass doors and approached the front desk.
Li Ping was already impatient. “Excuse me, we’re here for room 306!”
The receptionist blinked. “306?”
“Yes!”
“I’ll check for you.”
“Thank you!”
The receptionist tapped away at her computer, then frowned.
“What’s wrong?” Zhao Feng felt a bad premonition.
She looked up at Zhao Feng. “Sir, the guest in 306 has already checked out!”
“Checked out?” Li Ping asked in surprise.
She nodded. “Yes, already checked out.”
“When did this happen?” Zhao Feng asked.
“Hmm… about thirty minutes ago.”
Li Ping started to panic. “What’s going on? Why would she check out all of a sudden?”
“Could she have done something rash?” Chen Ying blurted out.
“No way, no way!” Li Ping protested, “My sister was in high spirits when she arrived!”
Zhao Feng took a deep breath. “Don’t panic!”
“How can I not panic?” Li Ping shouted. “That’s my sister!”
At this point, Zhao Feng was the calmest of the three.
He asked the receptionist, “Did she leave alone, or was someone with her?”
“Let me think…”
“I remember the guest from 306—she was wearing a baseball cap and a mask! To be dressed like that in this heat, there had to be a reason!”
“My coworkers and I even wondered if she might have cancer.”
The receptionist recalled, “When she checked out, there were two men in black suits following her.”
“Men in black suits?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive!”
“All right.”
Zhao Feng took a deep breath, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.
Ring… ring…
Click.
A charming voice answered, “Hello? Little brother, what’s up?”
Zhao Feng got straight to the point. “Xia Lin, I don’t have time for nonsense!”
“Huh? What happened?”
“I need you to find someone named Li Dan. She’s from Yuntai City.”
“She’s about 1.7 meters tall, wearing a white jacket, a baseball cap, and a mask.”
“I want solid information within an hour!”
Xia Lin dared not joke with Zhao Feng this time—she heard the anger and urgency in his voice.
“Understood!”
Beep. Beep.
Zhao Feng hung up and immediately dialed another number.
Click.
Yuan Jie’s voice came through. “Hello? Zhao Feng? What’s wrong?”
“Yuan Jie, is that Warlord Token you gave me last time still valid?”
Yuan Jie blinked. “Of course! Why?”
“Good. Help me find someone now. If you do, I’ll join that organization you mentioned.”
“What?”
“I won’t say it twice.”
“All right, all right! Zhao Feng, who are you looking for?”
Zhao Feng rattled off, “Her name is Li Dan, from Yuntai City. She disappeared at Ximan Hotel!”
“Got it! One hour—no, half an hour!”
“Good!”
Zhao Feng hung up, patted Li Ping on the shoulder. “Li Ping, don’t worry! Your sister will be fine! If anything happens to her, I’ll make sure this world is no longer at peace!”
Hearing Zhao Feng’s firm words, Li Ping was momentarily stunned.
A surge of emotion welled up inside him. He scratched his head. “Feng, I was out of line just now.”
Zhao Feng shook his head. “It’s only human. Come on, let’s drive around and look for her.”
“All right!”
The three left the hotel. Li Ping drove slowly down the street, while Zhao Feng and Chen Ying scanned both sides of the road.
Time ticked by—half an hour passed in the blink of an eye…
