Chapter 65: This Person Is Quite Reserved
The next morning, Shen Chutang woke up feeling refreshed and energized. The very first thing she did was call Ling You.
“Senior brother, I was bullied yesterday. They even shocked me with electricity.”
On the other end, it sounded like Ling You was washing up, the clinking of glass and water echoing before his voice came through. “Who would dare bully you? They must have a death wish!”
Shen Chutang immediately replied, “That Jiang family—Jiang Han. Last night, he and some thugs tried to hurt me.”
Ling You’s tone turned stern. “Don’t worry, little junior sister. I won’t let them off!”
After hanging up, Shen Chutang got herself ready and headed out. It was Monday, and she needed to go to school.
As she opened the door, Lu Beiqin stepped out, bare-chested. He had clearly just finished exercising and even showered. She had to admit, his muscles were perfectly toned, thanks to his daily training. No wonder he’d handled those thugs with such ease yesterday.
Seeing her, Lu Beiqin silently turned back inside, grabbed a simple T-shirt, and put it on. Shen Chutang felt a pang of disappointment—he was quite reserved, not at all embarrassed like the last time she had seen him without a shirt.
After breakfast, Lu Beiqin gave her a ride to Jingda High School.
“Bye-bye, see you tonight.”
Shen Chutang waved goodbye and walked toward the school gate, only to hear a woman’s voice behind her.
“Well, you keep saying you’re a teacher at the high school, but every day you have to come to work in your husband’s taxi. What, you dared marry someone who can’t even afford a car? Then again, who else would want you besides him?”
Shen Chutang glanced over. It was none other than Shen Tingting.
Shen Tingting looked smug, pulling out a BMW key from her bag. “The family just bought me a car—it’s for commuting, they said. They thought going to school was too hard for me, so they insisted on buying it. I suppose you don’t have one, do you?”
“But it doesn’t matter if you don’t. At your current salary, maybe after working ten years without eating or drinking, you could buy a house and a car.”
Shen Chutang ignored her mocking words and said calmly, “Today’s Monday.”
Shen Tingting shot her a disdainful look. “So what?”
“Don’t forget the reflection letter the principal asked you to write. You have to speak under the flag today.”
Without another word, Shen Chutang walked to her classroom, not sparing Shen Tingting another glance.
After the first class was the morning exercise. Students gathered on the field.
A few teachers stood together. “As expected, Class A students are always the quickest and most orderly.”
“Your Class C isn’t bad either.”
“I heard there was trouble at the school gate again last weekend—must be students from Class Z!”
“Of course. I saw one of the boys from Class Z hanging out with some delinquents. And every week at morning exercise, Class Z always drags their feet. Hardly anyone shows up—you’d think they’re off somewhere causing trouble!”
The teachers’ eyes all turned to Class Z. But one look, and they were stunned.
Was this really Class Z?
All the students were lined up neatly, no one playing with their phones or whispering. In fact, it was their own classes that still looked chaotic.
For a moment, the teachers fell silent, embarrassed.
That morning, as Shen Chutang led her class to the field, she’d said only one thing: “When you step out there, you’re representing me. If you do well, it’s my honor; if you don’t, it’s my shame.”
Immediately, every student in Class Z fell into step behind her, standing as if they were in military formation.
Soon, the flag-raising ceremony ended, and the principal began to speak, addressing last week’s incident in Class F with stern criticism.
He also brought up how, last week in the cafeteria, a student from Class A disrespected a teacher and had been ordered to write a reflection.
Shen Tingting, clutching her reflection letter, face pale, stepped forward and recited it in a monotone. Afterwards, Qian Zihan took the stage.
Qian Zihan and her friends were thoroughly fed up with Shen Tingting. If not for her, the proud students of Class A would never have lost face like this.
As they stepped off the platform, Shen Tingting tried to ingratiate herself. “Zihan, my family bought me a car. Let me take you all for a drive—it’s my way of apologizing.”
Qian Zihan shot her a cold look. “No need.”
Qian Zihan was an influential girl in Class A, and Shen Tingting dared not offend her. “I heard Forest Bites is open now. Let me treat you all to afternoon tea?”
Forest Bites was the most popular and delicious place among the students, but it was expensive—most people couldn’t afford to go more than once a month.
Still, going to Forest Bites was a status symbol; everyone would post photos online, attracting plenty of attention.
Qian Zihan was finally tempted. “Alright, let’s go today.”
“Great!” Shen Tingting added deliberately, “Honestly, the whole thing last time was Shen Chutang’s doing. The principal only showed up because she tipped him off—she set us up!”
Qian Zihan was still annoyed. “I thought so. How else would the principal have shown up at just the right moment?”
Shen Tingting couldn’t help asking, “By the way, I heard you have a brother outside of school?”
