Chapter 61: This Truly Has Healing Powers
Just as Zhang Shen was about to call out to Chen Rong and explain things clearly, Chen Rong had already walked away. Seeing this, Zhang Shen felt no inclination to clarify the matter any further.
In the blink of an eye, Zhang Shen found himself at the door of the senior medical class. Previously, he had studied alone behind his master; now, dozens of students trailed behind, learning together. Could the effect possibly be the same?
Standing at the classroom door, Zhang Shen hesitated, pondering whether or not to enter, when a gentle voice drifted towards him.
"Zhang Shen, why have you returned early?"
Looking up, Zhang Shen saw that it was Hao Lei who spoke. He thought to himself, if he’d known it was her class, he wouldn’t have worried so much.
"I'm asking you a question—what are you daydreaming about?"
Seeing Zhang Shen hadn’t answered her, Hao Lei asked again.
Finally realizing, Zhang Shen replied, "The patient recovered, so I returned ahead of schedule."
Hao Lei had never doubted Zhang Shen’s medical skill; since he said as much, she saw no reason not to let him in.
"Come in, then!"
As Zhang Shen stepped into the classroom, the normal order of lessons was disrupted.
"Dear students, this is our new transfer student, Zhang Shen. Though he'll be with you for less than five days, I hope you’ll get along well. He will also join you in the semester’s graduation exam."
With Hao Lei’s announcement, the class grew noisy.
"Less than five days—what’s the point of him coming?"
"So he’s Zhang Shen? I think my father mentioned that name."
"Me too. I heard this guy is quite remarkable."
…
The comments were mixed, but one thing was certain: Zhang Shen’s medical skill had been widely rumored to be extraordinary. Yet, none of this mattered to Ye Qiong.
It wasn’t that Ye Qiong’s own medical skills were particularly advanced; she simply regarded Zhang Shen as nothing more than a wandering charlatan. Contrary to Ye Qiong’s opinion, Wang Ying saw things differently.
Ever since Zhang Shen had stood up for Wang Ying that time, she had developed a fondness for him.
"Zhang Shen, you can sit next to Wang Ying."
"Yes, teacher!"
Wang Ying could hardly believe Hao Lei had assigned Zhang Shen to sit beside her. Yet, she hadn’t grasped Hao Lei’s true intention.
"Zhang Shen, I hear you’re skilled in medicine. You can tutor Wang Ying—maybe it’ll help her progress academically."
So, after all, Wang Ying’s grades were poor, and Hao Lei had arranged for Zhang Shen to sit next to her simply to help with her studies.
Wang Ying’s heart almost broke, but no matter what, having her ‘beloved’ sitting nearby still brought her a sense of happiness. On the other side, Ye Qiong, seeing the joy Wang Ying couldn’t hide, knew the girl was daydreaming again.
"Alright, let’s continue the lesson."
Not a single student could quietly finish the class; Hao Lei naturally understood what was on their minds. Soon, the bell signaled the end of class, and Hao Lei called out, "Zhang Shen, come see me for a moment."
Wang Ying had hoped to whisper something to Zhang Shen, but to her dismay, Hao Lei summoned him away so quickly.
After Zhang Shen followed Hao Lei out of the room, Ye Qiong walked up behind Wang Ying and gave her a sudden slap on the back. "Stop staring, he’s already gone."
Wang Ying was startled by the sudden action.
"You troublemaker! I ought to tear your mouth apart!"
Knowing Ye Qiong was teasing her, Wang Ying jumped up and chased after her.
…
Meanwhile, Hao Lei led Zhang Shen once more to the same spot in the park as before.
Her bright eyes flashed as she asked, "The item you mentioned on the phone last time—did you bring it?"
Zhang Shen understood precisely why Hao Lei had brought him here; after all, he alone knew the cause of her illness, and naturally, she didn’t want the whole school to know.
"Of course I brought it. Would a student deceive the teacher?"
"Then hurry up and let me see!"
Zhang Shen hadn’t expected Hao Lei to be so anxious—could it be that the previous prescription hadn’t worked? The thought made him ask, "Teacher, has your condition not improved?"
"No, it’s not that."
"Then why are you so eager for the dragon tongue flower?"
"Are you silly? I just want to recover quickly. Sometimes there’s still a slight swelling and pain. Ever since you said you’d bring some flower, I’ve been waiting for your return these past few days."
Zhang Shen knew Hao Lei wasn’t exaggerating; what woman wouldn’t want a healthy, alluring body?
He pulled the dragon tongue flower from his pocket and handed it to Hao Lei.
Although Hao Lei was a teacher, she hadn’t encountered every kind of medicinal herb. Examining the dragon tongue flower, she thought to herself that, though it resembled an ordinary herb, the crimson spots at the tip stood out and drew attention.
"Is this really effective?"
Zhang Shen was momentarily stumped by her question. He’d only learned about the dragon tongue flower that day and wasn’t sure it could cure Hao Lei’s condition. He had only heard from the hunter Yu Jun that it was beneficial for women’s beauty and health.
Seeing Hao Lei’s earnest inquiry, he replied, "Yes, it is."
"Good, how do I use it?"
Her question made Zhang Shen even more uncertain. He’d only learned about the medicinal properties of the dragon tongue flower, not its specific usage.
"Hey, I’m asking you!"
A hint of doubt flickered between Hao Lei’s brows, and Zhang Shen noticed it. Inspiration struck, and he recalled a method for using dragon tongue grass. He said, "It’s simple. Just crush it and apply it to the affected area."
"Then I’ll go home and try it. I’ll crush all of it and see how well it works!"
"All of it?"
Zhang Shen couldn’t believe it. As the saying goes, ‘every medicine has its toxicity.’ Even if dragon tongue flower was medicinal, it couldn’t be used so recklessly.
"Is there a problem?"
Hao Lei was puzzled.
Zhang Shen thought to himself: This woman really is impatient.
"That won’t do. If you apply it all at once, the medicinal effect will increase rapidly. The necrotic tissue inside might not withstand it, and the new tissue isn’t rebuilt yet. It could cause secondary damage to the affected area. By then, you’d be in real trouble."
Hao Lei was terrified by his words and paled instantly. Thankfully, she hadn’t acted rashly; otherwise her prized ‘assets’ might have been ruined.
Seeing Hao Lei’s embarrassment, Zhang Shen said, "Teacher Hao, you’d better go home and treat yourself. I need to return to class."
