Volume Three: The Intent of the Ten Directions, Chapter 87: Arrangements
Yesterday, when he met with Maple, that fellow insisted on leaving. Qin Yang had no choice but to ask Jin Yu and the others to look after him.
The two of them departed, taking away most of Qin Yang’s stock. A number of weapons and cultivation techniques he had no use for were also carried off.
Including those he had given away and others he had distributed, he now had only ten Enlightenment Pills left. He intended to keep them for himself and for his family, and had no intention of letting any out.
Cold Jade’s arrival put him in an excellent mood.
Because she had come bearing seven demon sabers.
These blades had once belonged to an elder of the Heavenly Demon Sect. After that elder perished, the demon sabers were placed in the divine weapons vault. Yet they were overbearing and alive with spirit; ordinary people simply could not wield them.
Some had tried to use them separately, but their power was greatly diminished.
And that elder had left no method of use behind, so in the end the demon sabers were left to gather dust.
If Qin Yang had not asked about them, Cold Jade would have forgotten all about it.
Looking at Cold Jade’s rosy face, he very nearly wanted to kiss her hard. With these blades, he could store away another hidden trump card. A sharp light flickered in his eyes; regarding Cold Jade, he had to think of some way to keep her from leaving.
The house was still missing someone to cook, and Cold Jade was perfect for the role. Not only was she beautiful, her strength was high as well.
At that moment, the door opened once more.
Enchantress walked in. He was very happy to see the newcomer, but what was the meaning of bringing someone else along?
The visitor was also an old acquaintance: Battle Dragon, the man who had once helped Bai Li He dispel the cold qi in her body.
This was a big shot from the nation’s special agencies. What was he doing here?
“Enchantress, what is the meaning of this?”
Battle Dragon looked at Qin Yang with a face full of kindly smiles. “Young man, don’t be so hot-tempered. We’ve met before!”
“Remember now?”
“No.”
Battle Dragon had been watching Qin Yang, his eyes suddenly lighting up. He had thought the other man remembered, but he had not expected that answer.
In an instant, he felt all wrong inside. Did it have to be handled like this?
“This is...” Enchantress was just about to make the introduction when Qin Yang smiled and said, “Battle Dragon, who wouldn’t know you? But since you’ve come over during the New Year, let me say this first: I don’t have the habit of giving out New Year gifts.”
At my age, am I really here in your eyes to collect a New Year gift?
Enchantress was about to speak, but Battle Dragon stopped her. His gaze was bright as torches as he smiled and said, “Qin Yang, it’s like this. We feel your strength is pretty good, so we’re thinking of recruiting you into the Dragon Group. What do you say?”
“Not much.”
Uh. Hearing Qin Yang’s answer, Battle Dragon was instantly speechless. Damn it, this was not how the script should go.
“Go in there, and maybe live forever?”
“Go in there, and maybe become enormously rich?”
“Go in there, and maybe have wives and concubines all over the place?”
Faced with Qin Yang’s three cannon blasts, he immediately felt terrible. Damn it, what a good kid he was—how had this wicked society ruined him into this state?
And the more he listened, the more familiar the question seemed, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
Damn, wasn’t this the line from that classic journey, when Sun Wukong first went to learn his skills?
This was really infuriating. He stroked his beard and laughed. “Qin Yang, I’m already this old, don’t joke like that. I’ve actually come here for two things.”
“Please, go on.”
“First, your strength is pretty good, so I want you to come help train some newcomers.”
“Second, I hear your alchemy skills are excellent. We have a lot of materials over there; you should come and practice your craft. I’ve heard that alchemy requires daily, long-term practice, and only then can it become second nature.”
Qin Yang stared at Battle Dragon, dumbfounded. He wanted him to go be free labor, and said it with such lofty righteousness.
Battle Dragon smiled and placed a notebook on the table, then left with a grin. “Think about it. No need to answer so quickly.”
After Battle Dragon left, Enchantress had no intention of leaving. She still wanted to explain.
“I know this has nothing to do with you. He set me up.” Qin Yang looked at the booklet stamped with an official seal.
Name: Qin Yang
Rank: Major General
Damn, this kind of status was impossible for ordinary people to resist, especially for someone Chinese. Few could refuse a national invitation.
He tossed the booklet into his storage ring, then began thinking about what benefits he should claim when he went.
When Enchantress saw Qin Yang put away the identification document, to be honest, she only knew that Battle Dragon had arranged an identity for Qin Yang. As for what rank it really was, she truly had no idea.
“Qin Yang, here is the location. When will you go?”
“In half a month.”
Enchantress did not ask why it had to be half a month later. She nodded and left.
Only after watching everyone depart did he have time to turn his attention to the demon sabers.
“Ah, I’m going into secluded cultivation. Cold Jade, you’re still my bodyguard now, don’t tell me you forgot?”
As soon as he finished speaking, he vanished and began his closed-door training.
The seven demon sabers were forged from ten-thousand-year meteoric iron, indestructible, and because they had been forged together as a set, there was a trace of connection among them.
That suited him perfectly. He began tempering them with his essence blood. Only in this way could man and blade become one, and only then could the demon sabers fuse with him.
As his essence blood splashed over them, fierce resistance burst from within. His face suddenly went pale, but he gave a cold snort and madly poured streams of martial intent into the sabers.
The originally pitch-black blades now shimmered with a faint demonic light. Along with the intent of thunder, the demonic qi inside them was being eradicated bit by bit.
Buzz, buzz, buzz.
The black demonic radiance was completely purged. Silver light flickered over the blades, then burst forth brilliantly, dazzling beyond measure.
His eyes grew brighter and brighter, and joy surged through him. He knew this meant the tempering was about to succeed.
Seven blades, and when they formed a saber array later on, just thinking about it was damn impressive.
If anyone charged at him then, he could unleash the saber array and grind them straight into dust.
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. He was almost impatient to test the power of the formation.
After thinking it over, though, he decided against it. After all, its destructive force was far too great.
He did not go out. Since he had already announced secluded cultivation, he might as well use this time to plan the road ahead.
He also needed to give these blades a name. Since he already had the Starfall Saber, these could be called Silver Fox Blades.
After all, they were a size smaller than ordinary sabers.
While he was in seclusion cultivating, Cold Jade outside was utterly baffled. She had originally planned to find some excuse to stay. She had even prepared many lines in advance, but in the end none of them were needed.
Thinking of her father’s instructions—that she must, by any means possible, bring Qin Yang under control and make him the son-in-law of the Heavenly Demon Sect—her cheeks grew a little hot.
Honestly, how could her father say such a thing?
At present, there were two major matters happening in River City, yet he knew nothing of them.
Ye Mei’er’s face was ashen. She had never expected the Bai family to be so shameless. Hearing a few baseless rumors, they actually wanted to push her out. It made her furious and heartbroken, and at the same time it stirred in her the resolve to cut ties with the Bai family forever.
