Volume One: Qin Yang of the Northern Seas Chapter 22: Spokesperson
Bored out of his mind, he could only choose to leave. In the end, Feng Bo did not agree to his request. He had hoped to earn a bit more, but Feng Bo simply refused to cooperate.
Now he held four pieces of jade in his hand. Quite a few people had offered sky-high prices, but he declined them all, instead handing them over to Ye Meier, instructing her to handle it as she saw fit.
As for himself, he bid farewell to Zhang Yiming and headed outside, having received a call from Su Ying, who said she had something important to discuss with him.
When he first heard this, he nearly thought Su Ying had called the wrong number.
Damn, he was just the head of the security department, completely clueless about other work matters. He simply couldn't figure out what Su Ying needed from him.
The more he couldn't guess, the more curious he became, and his steps quickened involuntarily.
This time, he hadn't just made ten million—Feng Bo owed him another million, and Brother Zhang and Brother Wang had helped collect the debt. As for Ye Meier, she had opened up a new business tier, requiring him to raise funds, which would then all be deposited into his account.
Returning to the industrial park, he found that a moving company had already been called to handle the relocation. He greeted everyone, then headed upstairs.
In the office, the air conditioning was on; it wasn't cold at all, especially since most of the girls these days cared more for style than for warmth.
She wore a white blouse and a short black skirt, her legs clad in black stockings—utterly enticing.
When she saw Qin Yang walk in, a captivating smile bloomed on her face.
"Qin Yang, have a seat. I have something to discuss with you," Su Ying said, pulling him to the sofa. She even poured him a cup of tea before continuing, "Here's the situation: after our discussions with Carnival Company, we've decided to invite a celebrity to the grand opening ceremony to draw a crowd. Mo Mo will be arriving tomorrow, and I need you to be in charge of security."
"Oh, and pick two reliable people to help you. After all, she's a big star, and nothing can happen to her in Bin City. Otherwise, who knows what the reporters will write."
Uh…
Hearing this, Qin Yang was dumbfounded. Damn, they're inviting Chen Mo Mo to be the spokesperson and want him—a guy—to be her bodyguard? Besides, she would surely have her own security. Wasn't his presence redundant?
He didn't voice these thoughts, only nodded in agreement. After all, she was the boss—when the boss gives an order, he listens.
Su Ying noticed that Qin Yang hadn't left yet, and especially saw him staring at her legs, causing a flush to rise on her face.
"Do you like what you see?"
The moment she spoke, she regretted it.
Ah, how embarrassing! How could I say something like that? Will he think I'm being too forward?
Oh no, what have I done?
Lost in her chaotic thoughts, Qin Yang's voice suddenly sounded: "Nice stockings, but aren't they a bit thin? Aren't you cold?"
Su Ying's face darkened instantly, especially as she looked at this oblivious man. "Get out, I have work to do."
Uh…
Qin Yang rubbed his nose, feeling helpless. A woman's heart was indeed unfathomable—he truly couldn't understand. Wasn't it her who called him in, and now she says she's busy?
And she asked him if the stockings looked good—he only answered honestly, didn't he?
Shaking his head, he left the office, feeling rather frustrated.
"Brother Yang, what did Sister Su want with you?" Seeing Li Jun and Wang Lei grinning mischievously, he became even more annoyed.
"Hmph, do you two have nothing better to do? Prepare formal attire for tomorrow—you’re both coming with me on an assignment." Without giving them a chance to refuse, he walked off quickly, leaving the two of them in utter confusion.
Online, he searched for Chen Mo Mo. There were plenty of news articles, but none of that mattered—he simply wanted to know what she looked like.
The next morning, just as he finished his cultivation, he looked outside and saw a brand-new Hummer parked there, and was surprised. The Hummer’s high chassis meant that, in the company, only Su Ying or Wu Yaoyao could afford such a car.
While he was still guessing, Wang Lei approached cheerfully. "Brother Yang, Sister Su said this is a company vehicle. You're to drive it and take good care of Mo Mo."
"But Brother Yang, who is Mo Mo?" Li Jun, big and burly, scratched his head and asked innocently, "Could she be Sister Su's daughter?"
"Doesn’t seem like it—Sister Su is only in her twenties." Wang Lei and Li Jun exchanged glances and joked, "If you ask me, maybe Sister Su has her eye on Brother Yang and wants to keep him."
As their conversation grew more outrageous, Qin Yang kicked them playfully. "Enough nonsense, let's head to the airport."
"The airport? Brother Yang, are we picking someone up?" Their eyes sparkled with curiosity, like two oversized children.
At that moment, he wished he could sew their mouths shut. Damn, they really talked too much.
"Enough chatter, or you'll make us late."
Qin Yang took the passenger seat. Although there was a car, he didn't have a driver's license—driving without one was just asking for trouble.
Seeing Li Jun unceremoniously settle into the back seat, Qin Yang pointed at the bicycle and smiled without saying a word.
Wang Lei, seeing this, was overjoyed, thinking to himself that he was lucky not to have said too much earlier, or he'd be the one cycling now.
"Brother Yang, seriously? You’re driving a Hummer and you want me to ride a bike for thirty kilometers to the airport? Take me with you!"
The other security department staff burst out laughing. They were all comrades, so the banter came naturally. Someone joked, "Li Jun, do you know what that's called?"
"What?"
"Loose lips sink ships. Look at Wang Lei—he kept quiet and now he's riding in the Hummer. Maybe this was his plan all along."
Wang Lei winked at them and said, "Come on, Li Jun and I are brothers. I wouldn't betray a brother over a car."
"If you wouldn’t betray him, then both of you can cycle," Qin Yang added, twisting the knife.
Wang Lei immediately caught on, especially when he saw Li Jun about to speak. Without waiting, he said righteously, "Brother Yang, brothers are for sacrificing! Besides, I'm doing this for Li Jun's own good—he needs the exercise, he's put on a few pounds lately."
Li Jun glared at him, as if he was seeing Wang Lei for the first time.
"Fine, Wang Lei, I misjudged you. It's just cycling to the airport—I'm not afraid!"
At the airport, it was almost noon. The place was crowded, with some people even holding banners that read "Mo Mo."
After parking the car, they still had about twenty minutes. They found the smoking area, lit a cigarette, and enjoyed a brief respite.
Wang Lei checked the time and called Li Jun, who didn't answer.
He could only smile ruefully—this time, Qin Yang had really played them.
After they finished their cigarettes, Li Jun arrived, sweating and out of breath. "Wang Lei, I'm done with you."
Wang Lei approached with a cheeky grin. "Come on, Li Jun, is it that bad? You just didn't get a ride. Besides, it wasn't my decision—he's the boss."
He winked at Li Jun and whispered.
With Qin Yang’s sharp ears, of course he caught it, but he pretended otherwise.
"Mo Mo! Mo Mo!"
