Volume One: Beihai Qinyang Chapter 0006: Work
Little Bamboo Industrial Park. This place is one of Bincheng’s proudest highlights, gathering over a hundred companies within its boundaries. Whether they are established brands or emerging industries, all are flourishing here. The city government intends to transform this park into a comprehensive hub, integrating work, dining, and entertainment—a centralized industrial complex.
Within the park, clusters of towering buildings gleam, rented out to corporate groups for a steady stream of income. With a big company comes a multitude of affairs.
Enchanting Beautification Company.
Located on the eastern edge of the park, it occupies a modest six-story building, beside which stands a standardized production workshop. Qin Yang surveyed his surroundings with a furrowed brow; the environment differed from what he had imagined. He had thought he’d be in the city center, watching crowds of beautiful women drift by, but instead, he found himself here in the industrial park.
Well, since he was here, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look around.
Within the factory grounds, several security guards patrolled, while others gathered in groups of three or five, chatting idly.
“Old Wang, did you hear? The boss’s driver, Xiao Wang, got fired.”
“Yeah, I heard about it. The situation was critical, and Xiao Wang abandoned the boss and ran off on his own. That kind of scoundrel—luckily, I haven’t seen him today, or I’d make him pay.”
“Oh, Old Wang, you’re getting on in years. Why do you still care so much about our boss?”
“Come on, I’m too old for those kinds of thoughts.”
As they bantered, Qin Yang approached. “Is this Enchanting Beautification Company?”
“Yes, what about it?” Old Wang eyed the young man and asked, “What business do you have here?”
“Oh, President Wu sent me for an interview, so I’m just here to take a look.”
At these words, the two older security guards widened their eyes—Wu Yaoyao sent him?
Old Li chuckled, “Hey, buddy, have you met President Wu?”
Qin Yang rolled his eyes. If he hadn’t met Wu Yaoyao, why would he be here?
“Of course.”
“Is President Wu pleasant to talk to?”
Old Wang patted Old Li’s hand and smiled, “President Wu hasn't arrived yet today. I’ll ask for you.”
With that, Old Wang radioed their supervisor. Soon, a stout, middle-aged man with squinting eyes came down. “You’re here for the interview?”
“Yes, that’s me.”
Wang Dafu nodded, “Follow me.”
The two ascended to the fifth floor, stopping at a door labeled ‘Manager’s Office.’ Wang Dafu knocked, and a familiar voice answered from within.
Wang Dafu beamed, “Manager Su, someone’s here for an interview.”
“All right, let him in. Dafu, you can go about your business.”
Reluctantly, Wang Dafu left, patting Qin Yang on the shoulder. “Do your best.”
Upon entering, Qin Yang stared dumbfounded at the woman before him. “Why is it you?”
“Why is it you,” Su Ying echoed, nearly stamping her foot in frustration.
It was because of this man last time that she managed to save herself two meals.
Qin Yang sat opposite her, eyes narrowed, scrutinizing Su Ying, the manager. She wore a blue plaid floral dress, her hair pinned up to reveal a snowy neck—he had to admit, Su Ying now looked quite competent. With her large, black-rimmed glasses, for some reason, he suddenly thought of those Japanese films featuring bespectacled female teachers.
There was another thing they shared: both had ample figures.
Seeing Qin Yang staring directly at her, she laughed, “Is it pleasing to the eye?”
“It is—uh, no, not really.”
“It’s all right, I suppose.”
Hearing his incoherent reply, Su Ying gritted her teeth. She truly couldn't understand why Yaoyao brought someone like him into the company, and even arranged an important position for him.
Head of the Security Department, with a monthly salary of ten thousand.
“Do you have any salary expectations?” Su Ying adjusted her glasses, smiling gently.
“No requirements, really. Two thousand a month, with food and lodging included, is fine.”
“Oh, is that so?” Su Ying considered his reply, then stressed earnestly, “Your position is Security Department Head, four thousand a month. If you perform well, there will be bonuses. You’ll be responsible for internal security and, importantly, the safety of female employees. I won’t tolerate complaints about anyone with ill intent.”
Qin Yang felt both amused and helpless. Why, in her eyes, did he seem like a villain?
Soon, Su Ying led Qin Yang downstairs and introduced him to the team.
Wang Dafu regarded Qin Yang with surprise; he hadn’t expected this newcomer to suddenly be placed above him. His gaze was sharp as a blade. “So, kid, you’ve only just joined, and already you’re head of Security. Impressive!”
After Su Ying left, he cautiously asked, “By the way, how much is your salary?”
“Four thousand, with bonuses if I perform well.”
Wang Dafu was delighted. He didn’t care about the nominal position; he simply wanted more opportunities to interact with Su Ying.
Now, Wang Dafu felt reassured, murmuring to himself: Su Su is still good to me, not only finding someone to share my workload but—most importantly—if anything happens, there’s someone else to take the blame.
The Security Department had just over ten people, some old, some young, with no real foundation. If trouble arose, these men wouldn’t be enough. As for Wang Dafu, his bulk rivaled a pig, and now that Qin Yang was here, he felt obliged to make a mark, if only to justify his salary.
Elsewhere, ordinary security guards earned three thousand a month, plus seniority and miscellaneous allowances, totaling around thirty-seven or thirty-eight hundred, so his four thousand wasn’t much to boast about.
He circled the factory and uncovered an important piece of news: in three months, the company would launch its own sales platform. Previously, products were sold by other companies' platforms, drastically reducing profit margins. If they sold directly, profits would rise by at least thirty percent.
Su Ying had arranged a decent accommodation for him—a single room in a tranquil setting, quite ideal.
If Su Ying had known Qin Yang’s thoughts, she would have laughed herself silly. The place was once an abandoned warehouse, later renovated, but so far from the office building that a walk took half an hour, so no one wanted to live there.
After tidying up, Qin Yang smiled. Finally, he could earn money; finally, a company was willing to accept him.
He chuckled inwardly, thinking of his friends in Beihai. How are you all?
A gleam flashed in his eyes. His main goal today was to get acquainted. That afternoon, he went out again, intending to recruit a few physically fit individuals.
Just as Qin Yang left the company, Wu Yaoyao returned.
“Su Ying, has that Qin Yang I mentioned arrived yet?” Wu Yaoyao walked over to Su Ying, grabbing her by the waist.
Su Ying laughed, “Yaoyao, stop it—this is the office.” She smoothed her hair and said, “That guy checked in. But, Yaoyao, why did you offer him such a high salary? Look at me, I settle for four thousand a month.”
“What? Didn’t I say to give him ten thousand a month? Why did you cut it so much?”
“Yaoyao, our President Wu, the company’s spending everywhere—if we can save a bit, we should. Besides, the sales center is about to open, and who knows how it’ll go. If Qin Yang performs well, we can always give him a raise later.”
“All right.” Wu Yaoyao was about to leave, then suddenly asked, “Su Ying, what’s Qin Yang’s phone number?”
“Uh, he doesn’t seem to have a phone.”
