Chapter 25: A Match Made in Hell

Shenlong Empire, Novice Village No. 9526.
When the Myriad Worlds Game descended, Liu Ruyan and Zhao Xu happened to be close to each other, and were therefore fortunate enough to be assigned to the same novice village.
Even more fortunately, both of them awakened powerful S-rank talents!
At that moment, they had just slain the Goblin Chief on Normal difficulty, a Black Iron-rank boss.
They were preparing to seize the first clear of Novice Village No. 9526 in one fell swoop when the sudden regional announcement left them rooted to the spot.
“White Night is ridiculously fast.”
Zhao Xu was astonished by the clearing speed, his voice filled with envy.
“White Night? Why does that name sound so familiar...”
Beside him, Liu Ruyan furrowed her brows slightly, lost in thought.
“Familiar?”
Zhao Xu’s eyes lit up. “Ruyan, think carefully. Was he someone who used to pursue you?”
“If that’s the case...”
“What? You’re thinking of giving me away again?”
Liu Ruyan rolled her eyes at Zhao Xu. She clearly understood exactly what was on the man’s mind.
The two of them enjoyed playing twisted games. One liked cheating, while the other had a cuckold fetish.
They were truly a match made in heaven—a pair of shameless scoundrels.
Back then, Su Mubai had merely been a prop in their games.
“What’s the big deal?” Zhao Xu showed no embarrassment at all. Instead, he laughed shamelessly. “It’s not as though you suffered, is it?”
“You enjoyed several years of wealth and luxury after getting together with Su Mubai.”
As he spoke, a flicker of anger crossed his face. “It’s all because of this damn Myriad Worlds Game. I was just about to reach the pinnacle of life, and now I have to start all over again.”
“Su Mubai...”
Liu Ruyan murmured the name as though she had remembered something. She suddenly covered her small mouth, her voice trembling as she exclaimed:
“That was the name he always used when playing games!”
“What?”
Zhao Xu’s expression changed, but he quickly returned to normal and shook his head.
“Impossible. Su Mubai should already be dead. I personally pulled the plug on him.”
“Besides, Su Mubai isn’t the only person who might choose the name White Night. It must be a coincidence.”
Liu Ruyan nodded at that, but still asked worriedly, “What if it really is him?”
“If that fellow really is Su Mubai...”
Zhao Xu frowned and rolled his eyes. Then, suddenly, he began to laugh.
“Wouldn’t that be a good thing?”
“A good thing? We joined forces to harm him. If he finds out, we’re finished!”
Liu Ruyan was somewhat puzzled.

“You idiot. He was already in a vegetative state back then. How could he have found out?”
“Only the two of us know what happened. As long as you keep quiet and I keep quiet, that kid will remain completely in the dark for the rest of his life!”
As he spoke, the smile in Zhao Xu’s eyes grew wider. He reached out and pulled Liu Ruyan into his arms.
“If this White Night isn’t Su Mubai, you’ll have to find a way to seduce him.”
“But if he really is Su Mubai, then things will be much easier.”
“Considering how much that kid likes you, all you’ll have to do is crook your finger, and he’ll hand over all the good stuff without hesitation.”
“You’re such a pervert.”
Liu Ruyan gave him an affected little pout, but a sharp glint flashed through her eyes. Clearly, she had already accepted Zhao Xu’s plan.
“Hahaha! With our Ruyan’s charm, whoever he is, taking him down will be effortless.”
The two exchanged a smile and made up their minds.
Once they left the novice village, they would search for White Night immediately.
What they did not yet know was that Su Mubai already knew everything.
They wanted to find White Night, and Su Mubai wanted to find them as well.
Their intentions happened to coincide. Truly, it was a passionate two-way pursuit...
...
Shenlong Empire, Novice Village No. 9527.
The fog blanketing the forest had been completely absorbed by Reggie, and the Forest of Mists had finally welcomed the light after a long absence.
Dappled sunlight filtered through the dense canopy and spilled across the earth, bringing a trace of vitality to the forest that had fallen into a deathly stillness.
Su Mubai paid no attention to the system announcement and began sorting through the items Reggie had dropped.
With his strength growing more and more monstrous, triggering announcements was destined to become commonplace for him in the future.
It was only a regional announcement. There was no need to make such a fuss.
“Killing you twice in a row... It’d be hard to justify it if you didn’t drop something good.”
He rubbed his hands together and slowly reached toward Reggie’s corpse.
Crack, crack, crack...
After having so much deathly aura absorbed from it, the creature’s skeleton had indeed become fragile.
The moment Su Mubai touched it, it scattered into fragments across the ground, revealing a large number of dropped items.
“What a haul!”
Su Mubai’s eyes lit up at the sight of the items strewn across the ground, and he began collecting them.
[You obtained 10 gold coins and 38 silver coins.]
[You obtained 10 Level 1 Attribute Gems.]
[You obtained 3 Level 1 Critical Hit Gems.]
[You obtained 5 Gold-rank pieces of equipment.]
“Why are they all Level 5 equipment?”
Su Mubai frowned slightly as he looked at the levels of the five pieces of equipment.
In theory, a Level 10 boss should have dropped Level 10 equipment.
After glancing over the attributes of the five items, Su Mubai tossed them straight into his inventory.
The items that followed immediately smoothed the furrow between his brows.
[You obtained the Dark Gold-rank equipment “Necklace of the Dead.”]
[You obtained the Dark Gold-rank equipment “Boots of Shadow.”]
[You obtained the Dark Gold-rank equipment “Greatsword of Bone.”]
[You obtained the Dark Gold-rank equipment “Heavy Bone Armor.”]
Four Dark Gold-rank pieces of equipment—every one of them Level 10.
It seemed that the Level 5 equipment from earlier had originally been dropped by Reggie before he became undead.
However, the attributes of these pieces could not be viewed until they had been appraised.
Therefore, Su Mubai did not rush to use Cataclysm to get them for free. Instead, he swept them all into his inventory.
He was very dissatisfied with his harvest so far.
Although the four pieces of equipment had not been appraised, he could still see their types.
Aside from the Necklace of the Dead, which was an accessory, the other three were all plate armor—completely useless to him.
“Surely something good should show up now!”
Su Mubai took a deep breath as he looked at the five ancient-looking books and the smooth, rounded crystal ball remaining on the ground. He began examining his final rewards.
[You obtained the C-rank skill book “Summon Skeleton Warrior.”]
[You obtained the C-rank skill book “Summon Skeleton Archer.”]
[You obtained the C-rank skill book “Summon Skeleton Mage.”]
[You obtained the B-rank skill book “Aura of the Dead.”]
[You obtained the B-rank skill book “Thunderous Strike.”]
“Good heavens. I nearly got all of Reggie’s skills in one haul!”
Of the five skill books, Su Mubai could learn four.
He was merely somewhat conflicted. The three skeleton-summoning spells would occupy three skill slots, which felt like a waste.
But those three skills were indispensable to a necromancer.
Just as Su Mubai was hesitating, the system notification sounded.
[Notification: You currently possess the three skill books “Summon Skeleton Warrior,” “Summon Skeleton Archer,” and “Summon Skeleton Mage.” Would you like to fuse them into “Summon Advanced Skeleton”?]
“Fuse them!”
Su Mubai’s eyes lit up, and he decisively chose to proceed.
The three skill books transformed into beams of light and merged into one.
Before long, an entirely new skill book appeared in Su Mubai’s hand.
