Chapter 1: My Dream is Very Simple
"Damn monsters!"
On his hospital bed, Liu Hui slammed his fist against the metal frame. Ever since the invasion of creatures from another world two months ago, the entire Blue Star had been pushed to the brink of collapse. These days, even going out for a quick meal could land a person in the hospital.
During these two months of otherworldly invasion, no one could quite figure out what these creatures were. Some breathed fire, others spat torrents of water, and some could even summon lightning. They were everywhere. Even with the military deployed, humanity had been unable to drive them away.
Ultimately, the authorities could only issue a strict warning, advising citizens not to venture into the wild and, if possible, to stay indoors until the threat was neutralized.
Of course, the lockdown wasn't strictly enforced. After all, monsters were relatively rare in the cities; the vast majority remained in the wilderness.
"I really wish these monsters would just drop dead," Liu Hui sighed heavily.
Lying in his hospital bed with nothing to do, he opened a live-streaming app to browse for pretty hosts. Due to the travel restrictions, streaming platforms had become incredibly popular, which naturally brought out all kinds of bizarre characters.
As soon as he opened the app, his eyes fell on a blatant piece of clickbait. The stream was titled: *What if I told you the "monsters" you speak of aren't monsters at all, but Pokémon? Would you believe me?*
"Another clout-chaser," Liu Hui sneered.
The streaming platforms were a chaotic mess these days. Plenty of people had tried to ride the coattails of the monster phenomenon. The outcomes were always the same: either they chickened out and never left their rooms, or they ventured outside only to end up in the hospital just like Liu Hui—assuming they survived the bloody encounters at all.
It seemed some people would truly do anything for a bit of fame.
"Let's see what kind of stunt you're pulling this time." With a cynical smirk, Liu Hui clicked into the stream. He wanted to see if this host was just using a cheap gimmick or if he was actively seeking a death sentence.
Upon entering the stream, he was greeted by the face of a somewhat handsome young man. He looked to be about twenty years old, sporting a neat buzz cut that gave him a sharp, energetic appearance. Liu Hui glanced at the chat box; it was completely empty.
Behind the streamer was a sparse forest with a narrow path winding through it. It looked like a scenic park once used for sightseeing or hiking. This made sense; the true wilderness was heavily restricted now, and no one would be allowed near it.
"A streamer with a death wish," Liu Hui clicked his tongue, shaking his head. "Let's see how long you last before you're carted off to the hospital."
The streamer's name was Qian Lin. He was a reincarnator who had been born into this world twenty years ago. After living a thoroughly ordinary life for two decades, relying on the accumulated knowledge of his past life to secure a comfortable, middle-class existence, he had assumed he would live out his days in quiet peace. Then, the Pokémon arrived.
Unlike everyone else, Qian Lin knew exactly what these "monsters" were. They were the wondrous creatures that had only existed in the anime and games of his previous life: Pokémon, also known as Pocket Monsters.
Two months after their arrival, Qian Lin's cheat system finally activated. Named the "Pokémon Encyclopedia Live Stream System," it provided him with a specialized streaming drone before fading into the background, leaving behind only a shop interface where items could be purchased using "Science Points."
Thus, after agonizing over the decision for nearly two weeks, Qian Lin set out on his journey to educate the world.
Though the stream was live, the viewership was pitifully low. Qian Lin didn't mind. He knew what he was doing. He wanted to be a pioneer of this new era, helping humanity accept Pokémon. As for anything else, he would worry about it later.
Taking a deep breath, Qian Lin offered a warm smile to the drone's camera. "Hello, everyone. I'm your host, Qian Lin. Behind me is a natural scenic area in Zhu County, Sichuan. It was closed off due to the Pokémon invasion two months ago. Although it has been cleared and reopened, citizens are still advised to stay away. I will be camping here for a week to introduce you to the Pokémon we encounter."
"Without further ado, let's head inside."
Despite the lack of comments or viewers talking, Qian Lin continued chatting casually as he walked into the park. "The ecology of this scenic area is quite well-preserved. They say you can spot wild pandas on the other side of the mountain, though I've never seen one myself."
[You actually dare to go in?]
Qian Lin's eyes lit up. His first viewer had spoken. "Hello, friend. My goal is to educate everyone about Pokémon, so getting close to them is naturally the best way."
[These monsters have only been in our world for two months. Educate us? Are you saying you know more about them than the experts?]
The user, whose handle was "Vast Glow," wrote with clear resentment in his tone.
"Not necessarily," Qian Lin smiled at the camera as he walked. "It's just that the angle of my understanding might be a bit different from those experts. My goal isn't to warn you about their dangers, but rather to show you..."
"Humans and Pokémon can coexist."
[??? Are you insane???]
Liu Hui felt this streamer had surely lost his mind. Ever since these monsters arrived two months ago, they had been in constant conflict with humanity. Now, human living space had been compressed into cities, and some small rural villages were completely uninhabitable.
The human leadership was plagued by headaches over this crisis. Various nations had deployed massive military forces to suppress the threat, barely keeping the monsters from entering the cities. In such an irreconcilable situation, this guy was claiming they could coexist?
Liu Hui was convinced the streamer was out of his mind.
With a sneer, he typed out a mocking reply: [Diagnosis complete: there's something wrong with your head.]
Qian Lin didn't mind and chuckled. "In reality, most Pokémon are much friendlier than you think. I don't expect you to understand right away. I only hope to slightly change humanity's prejudice against them. At the very least... don't treat them like ravenous beasts."
There were indeed hostile Pokémon, but the majority would not actively attack other creatures. While the arrival of Pokémon had significantly reduced the living space of native wildlife, they did not actively hunt the local animals; instead, they were quite friendly toward them.
The conflict between humans and Pokémon was not entirely the Pokémon's fault. At first, humans did not actively attack them either. However, the extraordinary powers displayed by the Pokémon soon drew the greed of certain humans who sought to control them, using entirely the wrong methods.
Consequently, the first wave of Pokémon grew wary of humans. Coupled with humanity's violent attempts to capture them, the war between the two sides began.
The subsequent conflicts were straightforward. Because hostility had already been established, the Pokémon that arrived later were attacked by humans without knowing why, prompting them to retaliate. Thus, a completely unnecessary war broke out.
Qian Lin had accepted the system's mission to educate people about Pokémon, not because he sided with them—he was human, after all. It was just that once he understood the truth, he wanted to mediate this meaningless war.
He didn't expect humanity to fully accept the existence of Pokémon. He simply wanted to show both humans and Pokémon that this war was pointless, and that they could, in fact, live together in peace.
It was as simple as that.
