Chapter Sixty-One: Taking the Master as a Wife
Madam Mo, “Think carefully—has Nian Nian ever treated anyone else this well before?”
She has always preferred to do things herself, never relying on others.
To be honest, none of us have ever enjoyed such treatment.
The Regent grew a little envious. “Isn’t it just because he saved Nian Nian?”
“No matter the reason, Nian Nian treats him differently. And after observing so many people, this Mo Hu is the one I am most satisfied with.”
“And what exactly do you mean by that?” the Regent asked.
“It depends mainly on Nian Nian’s wishes, but I do believe these two could make a good match.”
The more Madam Mo thought about it, the more she suspected it was because Nian Nian had met too few men, and so didn’t understand her own feelings for Jiang Hu.
Growing increasingly certain, Madam Mo summoned Jiang Hu to sound out his intentions.
After some probing, she found herself even more pleased. Jiang Hu spoke with poise and purpose, always holding Nian Nian close to his heart.
Where else could one find such a perfect husband?
Finally, Madam Mo steered the conversation to the real issue. “Mo Hu, you must be in your twenties now.”
“Ma’am, I am twenty-five this year.”
“Twenty-five—not so young anymore.” Madam Mo began to gently inquire about Jiang Hu’s past.
Jiang Hu offered her a carefully chosen summary, which filled Madam Mo with sympathy.
She slapped the table. “Those people were inhuman. Don’t worry, now that you’ve entered the Mo household, you are one of us. With us here, no one will dare to bully you.”
“Thank you, Madam.”
Then Madam Mo changed the subject. “You’re not so young anymore. Have you thought about marriage?”
Jiang Hu straightened his back and bowed respectfully. “Madam, I have a request that may be presumptuous.”
“I have deep feelings for the young mistress and wish to marry her.”
His palms were cold with sweat. He was determined to take this chance.
Madam Mo was silent for a moment, lifting her teacup. “But you know as well as I do that your status doesn’t really match our Nian Nian’s.”
“I know I am not worthy, but I like her deeply. I am willing to give everything to her. That’s why I dared to speak up—to try my luck.”
Madam Mo sipped her tea, increasingly satisfied, though she kept up her stern facade. “Nian Nian is our only precious daughter. How can you guarantee her happiness?”
Jiang Hu took out a yellowed piece of paper from his chest. “Please grant me a chance, Madam. Give me at most three years, and I will prove myself worthy of her.”
Madam Mo took the paper and examined it, her eyes narrowing. “Are you sure? Your body—”
“I can do it. Please, Madam, give me this opportunity.”
Madam Mo tucked away the paper. “Very well! I will give you this chance.”
“Thank you, Madam.” Jiang Hu bowed again, trembling with excitement.
---
Jiang Hu took over the command of that army from Mo Nian Nian and began secret training.
He never hid anything from Mo Nian Nian—she was free to observe the training at any time, but she had little interest in such matters.
Her only two hobbies were eating and sleeping.
Lethargy in spring, drowsiness in autumn, naps in summer—every season was good for sleep.
With Jiang Hu by her side, there was always someone to offer a pillow when she was tired, bring her water when she was thirsty, or present delicious food whenever she was hungry.
She truly felt she was becoming spoiled.
She was perfectly content with such a life.
Her only regret was that Jiang Hu’s illness kept recurring, and he would often fall sick.
Also, his “malice value” had remained stagnant for some time.
Mo Nian Nian suspected the cause lay in his past experiences.
To send someone as frail as Jiang Hu to seek revenge seemed more and more wrong to her. She wondered, if she dealt with his enemies for him, would his malice value decrease?
This little world had dragged on for too long—Mo Nian Nian wanted to finish it quickly.
She made a list of everyone who had once harmed or humiliated Jiang Hu, starting with the eldest prince of the neighboring kingdom.
Alas, such matters had to be handled by her.
She began planning to send Jiang Hu away—this dangerous task was not for him.
He was too weak, and the journey too far; she didn’t want him to fall ill again along the way.
“Mo Hu!” Mo Nian Nian called.
Jiang Hu appeared before her without a sound, a faint smile in his eyes. “Mistress.”
“I’ll be leaving for a while soon.”
“Where is Mistress going? When do you depart? I’ll prepare everything you need.”
“You don’t need to come this time. I’ll be back soon, in about ten days.”
“Mistress doesn’t want to bring me?” Jiang Hu’s eyes darkened, a somber shadow gathering within them.
He was used to being by her side at all times.
“It’s just that the journey is too far, and your health is poor. You’d exhaust yourself and fall ill again.” Mo Nian Nian patiently explained.
Jiang Hu fell silent for a long time. “Where is Mistress going? Is there something urgent?”
“It’s nothing important, just a small matter. Don’t worry. While I’m gone, just rest well—I’ll be back soon.”
A heavy weight settled on Jiang Hu’s heart. Mistress was hiding something from him.
Mistress wanted to leave him behind.
---
Absolutely not! That must not happen!
He lowered his head and replied in the affirmative, his beast-like eyes lingering on Mo Nian Nian before finally looking away.
He needed to quicken his plans.
“Mistress, I’ll go prepare your things for the journey,” Jiang Hu said gently.
Mo Nian Nian’s eyes brightened. “Thank you.”
What a diligent little snail—so hardworking, so lovable. She would miss him when she left.
[So will you stay, Host?]
Mo Nian Nian chuckled. [Of course...not.]
She kept a clear line between her missions and her life; she was eager to finish her task and return to the Divine Realm.
No matter how luxurious the nest, it could not compare to her own. Nothing was as comfortable as lying at home.
Because she had used pills that did not conform to the world’s regulations, the world’s rating had dropped to C-level. She would need to complete several more tasks to make up for it.
How could she waste any more time?
The system’s mood instantly sank. Oh.
The host was truly heartless—always claiming things were cute or pitiable, professing her love, but once the task was done, she left without a backward glance.
Its male lead was truly pitiful, encountering such a host.
The system cast Jiang Hu another sympathetic glance.
Jiang Hu withdrew, head bowed in thought.
Lin Fu entered from outside, immediately spotting Jiang Hu and striding towards him. “Mo Hu! What a coincidence, meeting you again.”
Jiang Hu’s eyes were filled with impatience, his whole demeanor radiating displeasure.
Suddenly, something occurred to him, and his expression grew more composed. “Miss Lin.”
“My father and I are guests at your residence. Since you’re half a host here, shouldn’t you entertain us?”
Lin Fu gazed at him hopefully.
She knew Jiang Hu had saved Mo Nian Nian’s life and that his position in the Regent’s household was special.
All the more reason for her to want to win Jiang Hu’s favor.
