Chapter Fifty-five: Threat
A thick mist hung over the sea, blurring figures beyond three meters into indistinct shadows and turning everything past five meters into a boundless white expanse. Once in the water, you could hear the chaotic clamor of voices, but the boats themselves vanished from sight. The Divine Realm was vast, and the Immortal World plagued with hardship—why, then, had no ancient god returned to save them? We had always believed that after the sealing of the gods, gods and immortals walked separate paths, but we had never wondered whether those gods still lived.
The news of the battle reached the Flying Tiger Squad at once—first victory secured! The four remaining Angel Squadron teammates, together with the now-damaged aircraft, escorted Li Haiyang back to the Flying Tiger base. The Third Master sprawled across the large bed in the dormitory, arms and legs spread wide. Mingyuan, sulking, had left her embrace and sat off to the side, face clouded with worry.
They had concealed even the sound of their heartbeats and, having poked a small hole in the window, peered inside. To their astonishment, they saw King Minxuan, and Huan Yi, holding his breath, stared at Haoxuan as if asking, “Elder brother, what is happening?”
Every time she recalled seeing Jiang Yun in her madness, Xu Huanyan couldn’t help but shake her head. She looked up at Su Ning, her eyes turning red with tears. Dong An’an still carried the Dawn Cipher, but her favorability was stuck at sixty points—he had other things to do for now.
“I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll keep this in mind. Brother Bai, you may return. I’ll arrange the necessary deployments.” Dai Li took a sip of tea, signaling the end of the meeting. Bai Chongxi understood: Dai Li was seeing him off.
Receiving a radio message from the pathfinder plane, the bomber pilots glanced down at the city below. They were certainly deep in the occupied zone, yet neither of the two marked targets appeared on the ground, contrary to their maps.
And so, Fang Liang fulfilled his wish and joined the heavy firepower company, only to be assigned immediately to the newly formed engineering platoon. Tang Jixian was delighted and personally arranged his accommodations. After expressing his gratitude to the chief of ordnance, he hurried off to discuss engineering tactics with Fang Liang.
“Even if my heart is shattered because of him, he will never be mine,” Ye Chenmeng said expressionlessly.
That night, when it was time to sleep, Ai Mu tried to slip into the master bedroom, but Si Junhao blocked her at the door, refusing to let her in.
At the table, Yin Yanzhong and the others watched with a glint of amusement in their eyes. Too many people made it impossible to speak freely, so they busied themselves with their chopsticks, filling their bellies before heading off to discuss business.
“Thank you, Young Master!” “What’s the situation inside? Did you gather any valuable information?” “Young Master, I believe the prison in Water City is now teeming with experts—the air is thick with tension, as if a storm is about to break.”
Cui Bin slowly cut open his own wrist, letting blood drip into a wooden bucket. Immediately, the insects inside went mad, tearing at each other in a frenzy.
The city garrison commander was speechless, his eyes darting with panic and sweat breaking out on his brow—he clearly had no confidence.
Yet, to their surprise, there was no one around the corner—only a two-meter-high wall, blocking the alley’s only exit.
The Guide appeared in three layers: at the base, a lotus of primordial chaos; in the middle, the Great God asleep atop the lotus; and above, another lotus from whose navel worlds took shape, shifting endlessly as the Guide slumbered.
He could only hope the fugitive hadn’t hidden within some space like the Infinite Origin Realm, for with no way to open it, entry would be impossible.
Especially if he returned after an early victory—he would surely come to Chansi City. She had a premonition: he absolutely must not go there.
Passing by Jinyang, her legs went weak from nervousness, and she stumbled, her cheek landing against his chest.
Miaomiao’s alluring face appeared behind the sedan’s curtain. With fox-like eyes narrowed, he glanced at Yao Qingmu atop the donkey, then ducked out of the soft sedan and sauntered toward her.
Now, since he hadn’t made things explicit, she could still feign ignorance. But once he confessed, would she have to accept, against her will, for the sake of saving the Lin Corporation?
Stepping slowly from the water, Luo Yuling made no haste to dress, simply regarding the elegant attendant who stood quietly nearby.
He longed to reach out and touch, but in the end, his hand hovered in midair, wavering before falling back.
Jinyang let out a soft laugh, as if mocking her unnecessary movements. Effortlessly, he seized her hand, ignoring her struggles and protests, and with forceful dominance, pried open her lips, deepening the kiss.
The Audi carrying the two of them turned a corner and came to a slow stop before an inconspicuous building.
A smile crept over his lips. How many years had it been since he’d felt so unburdened? In that moment, he could release all his pent-up emotions, without a single reservation.
Though Yang Fan had used only thirty percent of his strength, the burly man before him was sent flying, unable even to react.
Stuck in the middle of the team, Yun Yin was deliberately ignored by the others. Tasked with protecting the logistics personnel, he made no move to intervene. Zheng Yue, beside him, considered joining the fray, but after weighing their strengths, decided against making things worse.
After conspiring together, Zhou Tong led me away, the dog brother watching us until we passed through the courtyard gate.
The general staggered back, arms numb and powerless, his saber drooping nearly beyond his grip. The blade was chipped and jagged, resembling a saw; his palm was torn and bleeding, staining the hilt red as the blood dripped steadily to the ground.
